what happened to comedy country songs?

I guess Ray Stevens was the last one to do these, but it used to be a genre. Homer and Jethro, Little Jimmy Dickens, even Johnny Cash did humorous songs.

Joe Diffey did some funny stuff.
He was great at making those funny songs fit into Mainstream though. He raised the bar IMO.
John Deere Green was genius, Prop Me Up Against The Jukebox too. Third Rock From The Sun...
