No joke. I watched the Chicago doc on Netflix awhile back. While I remember absolutely hating their mid to late 80s stuff, I forgot just how many bad songs they had in that era.
Look Away might have the most pussified lyrics of all time.

Yes
Listen to them up until Going For The One and then listen to that crap that they put out with Trevor Horn and Trevor Rabin after that.

Good answer. The only thing that stayed the same about Yes was the name. There had to be 5 or 6 different incarnations with a few variations to each one.
I'll add Genesis. Groundbreaking progressive rock band in the 70's to top 40 machine in the 80's.

Rod Stewart.
Don't know how you go from albums like Gasoline Alleyand
Every Picture Tells A Storyto a vomit inducing disco album like Blonds Have More Fun
Don't really think he cared what others thought though.I think it was the biggest commercial success of his career.

Of course they did.
There isn't much difference in your two albums(life's Rich and Document) you picked where they became unhip. You can intermix those two albums and to any non fan, they wouldn't notice a difference. But you chose document because that's when the steam started building about the uncoolness associated with REM. Admit it.
By Out of Time they were just cringeworthy.

So, the original fanboys all pick the same point because of a label?
Did yours? no. but it seems two other posters have yes.

I think you have to look at them as "with Kath" and "after Kath". Their sound and direction really changed after his death. And don't get me started on that arse-clown David Foster..
I'll admit - I like most of 17 and 19 but it radically different. I was listening to some of the complete Chicago at Carnegie Hall album that came out this year. Damn Kath ran that band early on. If you care about that era, the Carnegie Hall album recorded in '71 is worth the listen. It's eight full shows and a lot of repetition of songs but Kath's long solos change from show to show.

The Band Perry:
They started out as contemporary country with their mega hit "If I Die Young" and a host of other successful hits in Nashville.
But then they took a haaaard left turn and went Electropop in LA. I don't even have to show you what their new music sounds like, because all you have to see is the drastic new ascetic they adopted to see the change:

A lot of singer/songwriters.
One example. Noah Gunderson I was listening to today. First albums are mostly him and an acoustic guitar. Occasional violin. Latest albums are electric guitars, synths, etc. His earlier stuff was so much better.
Kings of Leon obviously.
Mumford.

quote:This is simply wrong. Have you even listened to them? You've been wrong every time you've posted about it. Document is crap. LRP may be their most solid album. You seriously have no idea.
