This 1979 hit was admittedly a bit hokey but it was created by a couple of talented and well seasoned musicians who were members of other popular bands including Yes and Asia. It was also believed to be the very first video which aired on MTV when it premiered. Thoughts?

Oh.it was prophecy. Back when we just had radio, we didn't know what anybody looked like. The music just spoke for itself, or not.

It foretold the style over substance era of music that was just beginning. Aside from a brief golden era in the early to mid nineties with grunge, it proved to the beginning of the downfall of popular music

Unfortunately I am old enough to remember when that came out and like a couple folks have already said it was lamenting on the changes the music industry was undergoing at that time. The video craze changed up things quite a bit and not necessarily for the better

It wasn't just believed to be the first video aired on MTV. It was the first video aired on MTV.

It was their only hit. Nobody from Yes was in the band.

Trevor Horne and Geoff Downes were the two talented musicians in The Buggles and both were in Yes, albeit for one year and post Buggles but they WERE in Yes. Horne was the bassist and lead vocalist and Downes was on keyboards.

As mentioned, Horn was in YES for one album. He also is very associated with YES for also being the producer of their iconic album 90125.

"Believed"?

The First Day of MTV - August 1st, 1981

Interesting that the "Fivers"(a term I just made up to describe the 3 videos that played 5 times the first day of MTV) were The Who - You Better, You Bet, Phil Collins' - In the Air Tonight and April Wine's - Just Between You and Me.

One of those is not like the other (much as I like April Wine).

I don't get it.

April Wine is the most under played band ever.

You just don't expect even their most played song to air 5 times on the first day of MTV. Even Phil Collins is a little unexpected, but he was huge and still peaking at that point.

Interesting too that Maiden and Nazareth were in the rotation.

Not really. Artists make money on Youtube music video views. Gangnam Style became the first video to reach one billion views

Napster killed somebody

Napster killed the record/cd business and Lars killed Napster eliminating the worlds largest library of music.

Downloaded is an excellent documentary about Napster.

A documentary that explores the downloading revolution; the kids that created it, the bands and the businesses that were affected by it, and its impact on the world at large.
