Jim Morrison is a total hack

The Grateful Dead's style of jamming is usually (but not always) slow paced, boring, and lacks coherent direction

Rush is terrible

People are too harsh and myopic in their musical tastes and opinions.

The Rolling Stones are a better rock band than The Beatles.

I'll take it a step further. I think the Beatles are the most overrated band ever.

The Who is the greatest British band of all-time.

this is 100% correct

Rush is terrible
this is 100% incorrect. Geddy has a love/hate kind of voice, but Rush may be one of the most competent bands of all time.

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion but describing a rock band as "competent" may be the most damning insult imaginable.

Yup.

It's not really unpopular, but it certainly is ignorant.

Competent in a musicians' sense. Sorry if I went over your head. Rush is very fun to play- time and tempo changes usually keep you on your toes.

--John Mellencamp is a better singer/songwriter than Bruce Springsteen and is only shat on by the music press because Springsteen is an east coaster they relate to while Mellencamp is "corny" Midwesterner.

--Most people's musical tastes are cultural, whether they want to admit or not.

--A large part of hip hop's rise to cultural ascendency has been driven by the music industry because hip hop artists were much easier to control, by and large, than rock bands. They were far more willing to play ball and contrary to their public images, to please the establishment.

--Led Zeppelin would be a great band if Robert Plant didn't exist. His screeching is laughable, and inspired a generation of awful frontmen.

-- Pretty much everything after the Bends by Radiohead is pretentious bullshite.

-- Simplicity is the goddamned point of rock n roll. If it can't be re-created by five kids in a garage, you're doing it wrong. Guitarists, left to their own devices, have ruined and will continue to ruin rock n roll with their aimless noodling. The only people impressed by complex chord structures are other guitarists... and honestly, even the most complex rock/prog song is still pretty damn simple on an absolute scale.

-- The 80s were the single best period of pop music. You had a fun, varied pop landscape as well as a thriving underground. You had Madonna and Prince dominating the charts while kids were busy inventing hardcore, hip hop, and the best era of thrash. Also, MTV allowed all sorts of weirdos to become popular before they got things under control.

-- Kanye can't rap for shite, and his albums are pretty boring, as they lack any discernable hooks. That said, his true medium is celebrity, and he's GREAT at it. I wish he could be a pop star without having to ever listen to any of his music ever again.

-- Rihanna is better than Beyonce.

-- The Replacements are the platonic ideal of a rock band. The problem is, going that close to the razor's edge means that people are going to die. It would be worth their albums being more controlled, focused, yet not as good if it meant Bob Stinson was still alive. For he is the greatest guitarist post-punk revolution, except maybe Joey Santiago of the Pixies.

The Kinks are/were better than The Beatles and The Stones...

Also, couldn't care less about Bro Country, because contemporary/mainstream country has been shite for 30 + years.. its just shittier now...

Bob Dylan and Jamey Johnson have terrible voices and should stick to writing.

Darius Rucker has the best voice in Country music

U2's version of 'North and South of the River' is fricking terrible. Every other (professional) version is great.

Adele is whiny as frick and largely unlistenable.

I agree with everything in your entire post except for this "would be." I think they were a great band in spite of Plant's laughable screeching. He should have been reined in but it worked for the most part.
