Good thing he made it with the Beatles and was one of the ones who made the Beatles because most of his post Beatles stuff is crap.

Edit. I was wrong
Jet
Band on the Run
Live and Let Die
Jet
And others.

SOME of it was total crap.
Silly Love Songs, Say Say Say, Ebony and Ivory etc.

My bad.

This is how I was (almost just by lazy default) for many years - until I got into my current (now 5 month-long) Beatles deep dive. There's plenty of good stuff in there.

Someone’s knocking at the door,
Somebody’s ringing the bell,
Do me a favor,
Open the door and…

Let ‘em in.

That’s next level songwriting, right there.

Wings Over America

IMO a better gauge of a band is live performances.

In 1993, I had to be TALKED into taking a free ticket to see Paul McCartney at the Liberty Bowl Stadium in Memphis. I was very meh about him at that point. I figured well, he was a Beatle after all, so why not.

It was a GREAT show — one of the best I’ve ever seen.

I think a good bit of people agree with you OP

I think all things must pass is an absolute masterpiece

My second favorite is plastic Ono band, followed by band on the run

But hey, there’s room in my music world for genius McCartney and crappy silly love songs McCartney too

For the record, Ringo’s It Don’t Come Easy might be my favorite post Beatles solo song (although I think it’s technically a George song that he gave to ringo). Crazy impressive group of individuals

His solo career wasn't as artistically strong as Lennon's or Harrison's, but he wrote some catchy tunes.

People rip on Silly Love Songs, but that recording is fantastic.

He was pretty solid up until he hooked up with Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.

He also always had really tight live bands. Laurence Juber is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time in any genre.

I like at least 10 of his post Beetles songs more than any single Beetles song. This thread may have the worst premise in the history of the music board.

Decades ago, a friend left his bass and amp at my place for a weekend. I went into it thinking I'm gonna bring my guitar skills to this and be Geddy Lee. All I did was play Silly Love Songs all day. It was so fun. For me, at least, not the girlfriend.

They always played that song at the nightly dance at 4-H camp, so it triggers memories every time I hear it. Same for Colour My World (Chicago) and Three Times a Lady (Commodores).

I also love the scene in True Blood where a couple is cruising down the road jamming to Silly Love Songs. You wonder what the hell this is about, then it cuts to the trunk where Vampire Bill and Eric are tied up and listening as well.

I just turned 14 y/o, was too cool for school and not especially stoked about seeing some fossil with my mom and dad lol…I was fricking blown away that night and to this day it remains one of my favorite childhood memories. Definitely a terrible take. Of the 4 Beatles, Paul's stuff is far and away the best of the post-Beatles era.
