I tend to agree but just to argue, if McCartney’s first introduction to the world musically was Another Day or Mary Had a Little Lamb without the benefit of having been a Beatle would there have been a Band on The Run?

hot take- Paul is great but the vaudeville showtune numbers (honey pie, maxwell's silver hammer, etc.) are turds in the punchbowl of otherwise great records.

I think Maca's granny songs are the inspiration for several Queen tunes.

His solo career wasn't as artistically strong as Lennon's or Harrison's, but he wrote some catchy tunes.

As someone already mentioned, Plastic Ono Band (Lennon) and All Things Must Pass (Harrison) are superior albums to any album Paul put out, but he wins for having a lot more quality quantity. Ram, Band on the Run, and McCartney are right there on the heels of those two classics.

It should be noted that one best be wary when bad-mouthing Mull of Kintyre.

Nah, those are some of the bets. When I'm 64, Honey Pie, Your Mother Should Know. All crushing gems.

Imagine evaluating the quality of songwriting (by a Beatle, no less!) simply on lyrics. (Particularly when the Beatle in question is widely acknowledged as one of the true melodic geniuses of all time.)

George Harrison stated that, if anybody wanted to hear what The Beatles would have sounded like had they not broken up, just listen to Paul McCartney and Wings.

I'd find that hard to believe, even if just from a palatable upgrade to meaningful lyrics.

Tell it to George. That's what he said.

That's fine for Mr. Butthurt to say that, but no chance Lennon would have been pushed over like that. For christ's sake - listen to Abbey Road. The final recordings essentially happened when they were already broken up.

It's still kinda funny that he did say that, and, when you think about it, you'd have to admit that had the Beatles stayed together into the early 1970s, all of the Paul songs would sound like Wings songs.
