But for me, it's because he puts major chord arpeggios to words in a modern day song. Sneaky genius bastard!

1,3,5,7 as plain as day :jump1: :jump2:

Mayer is extremely talented, but he does write some cheesy stuff. He's hit or miss for me, but when he hits he is fantastic. Still, even his cheesy stuff is loaded with talented guitar work.

stop this train is brilliant

Yall shoould watch his documentary. I was was a hater, but the cheesy stuff was justa vehicle to fund his "real" music, if you will. John is a funny dude. Check it out.

Yeah, he's really good. I can't say I'm a really big fan, but some of his stuff is fantastic, and most of it is really great. It just seems that it has to be the right time, to appreciate it. It's not something I can listen to a lot.

Continuum is the only full studio album i can make it through, but it is a good one.

Also like Live In LA and Try (JM Trio)

His Bold As Love cover on Live in LA is fantastic, but then near the end he goes into a 2 minute tirade about God knows what and completely puts me out of the song.

I agree. When he focuses on bluesy sounds he shines. I turn off when he hits the chick notes

That's just the way it is. Some people think of it as selling out, but it's the reality of the business now that airplay is so important to make money. You have to have stuff that the chicks like, and that generally means cheesy.
Personally, I am writing and demoing the cheesiest stuff of my life right now. It would be nice just to have 1 song make some money, so I could finish my own little ego project. We have to do what we have to do.

I always viewed him as writing pop shite to cash which allows him to play the music he really want to play

I usually think of the Chappelle Show episode when I think of John Mayer. I know some of his music and it's alright but doesn't captivate me like the music I gravitate towards.

About a month ago, there was a guy walking his dog that passed me at the park wearing a John Mayer shirt. I somewhat recently discovered John Mayall (saw him in concert) and said 'Wow, I just found out who John Mayall is and really love his sound'. Then I immediately realized my mistake, felt stupid and apologized, he probably thought I was trolling him.
