The best band of the 1980's and one of the greatest British bands of all time.

Great lyrics, great singing, totally unique sound, wrote great pop/rock music.

One top 10-20 all-time album (Queen is Dead), another all time classic (self-title), and two other solid albums. Hatful of Hollow is amazing too (I actually like it better than the self-title), but not really a "real" album.

What say you MB? The Smiths a top-tier all time band?

Some great Smiths songs:

There is a Light and it Never Goes Out

The Headmaster Ritual

William, It was Really Nothing

Bigmouth Strikes Again

Pretty Girls Make Graves

Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me is probably my favorite (w/ piano intro).

Certainly one of my favorite bands. The Smiths played an integral role in my musical taste awakening.

Yes

No "How Soon Is Now?" Probably their biggest "hit".

I honestly haven't listened to them hardly at all other than that song on Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Listening now though and will try and get into them because I hear great things.

First band I was ever obsessed with back when I was a young lad in the 80's.

That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore is one of the greatest songs ever written.

My hatred of Morrissey is balanced by my love of Johnny Marr. I'm conflicted.

The person or his singing or both?

Both. But mainly the singing. And his general whiny lyrics.

A Smiths song is Morrissey trying his damndest to ruin a Marr riff.

Ah, I just dislike the person. Love his singing. Some of his lyrics are among my favorite. The pain was enough to make a shy, bald Buddhist reflect
and plan a mass murder...Brilliant

Gotta be in the mood for them.

Greatest Hits Volume 2 never left my vehicle or my CD player at home in the 90's.

I can think of nothing more gay that I will proudly sing. Feel like I should kill a bear with my bare hands though afterward to compensate the ghey.

Always loved Rubber Ring

"And when you're dancing and laughing and finally living, hear my voice in your head and think of me kindly."

Always thought that was a great line.
