Early track list ranking IMO:
1. If the Sun Never Rises Again
2. Right Kind of Dream
3. One For the Road
4. Scooter Blues
5. Jupiter’s Faerie
6. Who I Am
7. Mint Tea
8. Swamp of Sadness
But honestly it’s hard to rank them. I think every track on here is a solid 7 or 8 out of 10

Source? What a POS.

It’s in the GQ article. He definitely seems like a pretentious douchebag but he makes damn good music

The family piece was left incredibly ambiguous in the article and damn near everyone I know that read it walks away asking the same.
It’s one thing to disappear for a few months- he’s a touring musician and all but 2-3 years in and the writer never really resolved the massive personal note of whether he just is solo in Europe permanently now
Drama aside - fantastic album.

Let's not pretend that we know what the dynamic is between him, his wife, and his family. It does not sound like he "left them." He's involved in a lot of things, so he's going to be away a lot. Just like any other music star.

Sturgill is a pretentious snob so doubt but frick, this album is nice.

He's still wearing his wedding band in one of the pictures. Some of the lyrics in Scooter Blues, which was written about Thailand, are definitely inferring that kids are around, so they very well may have been with him for parts or this journey.
Spend my mornings making chocolate milk and Eggos
My days at the beach, my nights stepping on Legos

Or maybe he just really likes all those things
Honestly if I was rich id probably buy legos too

This album seems like sturgils worse version “cheap silver and solid gold” from Mike and the moonpies (I refuse to call them silverada)
This is spot on. But I didn't see it as a bad thing.
When I first listened to If the Sun Never Rises Again, I also thought of Cheap Silver/Solid Gold.

I heard 70’s soft rock.

Disagree. One of my favorite road trip albums. It’s like a book on tape.

Modern day version of "Red Headed Stranger".
I like it. IDGAF whether anyone else does or not. That's what makes music great. We can agree to disagree on one album/artist even if we might really like other stuff they have done, we just may not like the same things.
ETA: I would think anyone who likes one of them would like both, and if it isn't your thing, you probably think both of them suck. Can't see how you would like one and not the other.

Personally this album isn’t bad but it’s also not very exciting. Nice sound but nothing special. Will get a few more spins than Juanita and the Dood Got.
It does very little for me. He's lost that fire and edge that made his music so special, and which was last really heard on Sound and Fury.. This album is mostly just pablum. .

Just got back from the Missoula show.
Absolutely phenomenal, probably the best show I've ever seen.
They started at 8 on the dot and played for three hours straight. No opener, no set break, not even any times between songs - it was a seamless show with incredible musicianship.
Turtles All the Way Down
Living the Dream
If the Sun Never Rises Again
Long White Line
I'd Have to Be Crazy
Right Kind of Dream
All Around You
Call to Arms
Juanita
Fastest Horse in Town
You Don't Miss Your Water
Jupiter’s Faerie
Scooter Blues
Life of Sin
One for the Road
Purple Rain
I Don't Mind
All Said and Done
Mint Tea
Sing Along
Voices
Midnight Rider
Red Red Wine
Railroad of Sin
The Promise
A Whiter Shade of Pale
Brace for Impact
A Good Look
Just Let Go
Welcome to Earth
It Ain't All Flowers
Best Clockmaker on Mars

I talked to some folks who have been following him around so far...they say every set has been like this.
If I had to describe it, imagine if a jam band had impulse control and jammed hard as shite for 3-6 minutes at a time but transitioned to songs without getting lost in the noodles.
He teased Purple Rain for a few bars every few songs until they committed to it. It was incredible.
