Went on this rabbit hole years ago… no one listened. Back on it… no one narrated the strings like him, slash, clapton imo. Weird that he passed so young and he was finally sober.

Like the jfk files, I pray we hear stories of Srv and prince jamming. Read there may be a 1984 backstage duo.

Saw him for free with fair admission in Phoenix (80's). He played with his teeth for a bit. Dude was so talented and the epitome of cool.

Clapton was supposed to be in that helicopter. He insisted SRV take his seat so Stevie wouldn't have to drive back home.
The rest is history.

Stevie was on a completely different level than Prince. He could make a guitar sing.
There are some excellent interviews with Tommy Shannon and Whipper on YT if you want to get some insight on what their time with SRV was like.

If there was a better guitar player, haven't seen him.

GOAT on guitar.
I have concluded.

I've loved SRV since hearing House Is Rocking and seeing him on Austin City Limits years ago. Happened to catch a PBS show a few years back that was him performing at Montreaux and was just totally blown away.
He had, to me, such a unique tone. I don't know if it was because he played such thick strings or what, but his tone is unmistakable. Even in something completely opposite of what he usually played, like his work on Let's Dance, that tone shines through.

Was at Alpine Valley, the venue of his final show. The helicopter never made it to Chicago.

My parents saw SRV @ JazzFest in ‘90, I was overseas, couldn’t make it…

Live at the El Macambo. That’s all I got.

I saw him play at the Veterans Park amphitheater in 1984 in Shreveport. I wish I could have seen him at Humpfree's in 81. Friends that were there those nights said it was incredible.

What part of LaPlace did you live? If you don’t mind me asking. My life path crosses those parts.

I only lived in LaPlace for 10 years. I have been on the Northshore for over 20 years. I grew up in Shreveport.
When I lived in LaPlace I lived near Ascension.

That was pre sober I believe. The alcohol and cocaine ratio must have been dialed in that night. Every minute of that show is amazing.

My favorite musician of all time. First time I ever "felt" music was when I heard his version of Little Wing on the radio. I've been hooked ever since.
Here's a great version of Drivin' South that he did. What a frigging monster. He had it all. What a legend.

I was lucky enough to have seen him at Jazz Fest, on the Riverboat President, and at the Astrodome with The Who

Dude tried to put 3 different blues schemes together. I love clapton, r and b, but Srv I don’t comprehend.
