That's my stance on country music in general. I don't care for it - but I can still appreciate an artist as a musician/song writer/vocal talent.

You seriously can't find any degree of appreciation for what you listened to?

Maybe it's easier for me because of my experience in commercial radio. You have little/no control over the playlist air every day. Unless you get your own show - which can only happen if the station feels comfortable you can pull in the commercial sponsors and maintain/increase your market share to a degree that they'll break from label/industry enslavement - Your going to be churning out the same stuff over and over day after day. You think you get sick of certain songs/artists when you hear them all the time. It's even harder to sit there cuing it up 3 times in 4 hours every shift. You can either learn to let yourself find appreciation... or make you hate your job and likely interest in music in general

I've got to admit that this thread has taught me is that I needed to re-examine what I consider to be a crescendo.

The songs I included in the OP follow roughly the same arc: starts slower/softer, gradually/incrementally increases in volume, intensity and (to some degree) tempo... then finds another gear/level that the listener didn't even know existed and never saw coming.

To me - a song that starts out loud, fast or intense wouldn't have fit into the equation... But upon listening (instead of just hearing) - I can see where most of y'all are coming from.

Even if the song doesn't necessarily appeal to me.

I know exactly what you're saying. When I first started piano, any time I saw the crescendo sign on sheet music, I would quiet my playing and get louder and louder and my teacher would be like wtf keep playing normal and get louder

I've got something fun for you to try.

I guess whoever else wants to can feel free as well.

Start playing "Spiders"

Wait about 45 seconds or so, then Open this in another window and watch it with the volume muted.

Speaking of Suede, the first listening of 'So Young' was an 'aha' moment for me, and signalled what was to be a watershed album.

Oh, no. I definitely appreciate the style of O'Connell and Murphy. Unique and something to admire, but its just not my favorite.

This is understandable.

Foreplay/Longtime - Boston

The intro into Longtime after the instrumental Foreplay. Gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it, and the first time I heard it I instinctively turned up the volume as the song got louder

First thing I thought of was "Hallelujah". Think I first heard the Jeff Buckley version. I know it doesn't quite meet the criteria of being a "hidden gem" but the first time I hear that sin I got goosebumps and literally stopped in awe.

"Hurt" by Johnny Cash has an emotional crescendo if not an auditory on, that gets me too. Absolutely recast that song in a completely new light for me.
