John Taylor of Duran Duran-amazing bass player

Warren DeMartini of RATT. One of the great guitar players that never gets his due.

Along that same line, Jake E. Lee, Ray Gillen and Badlands.

Indeed. I'll second that with the DeLeo brothers, both criminally underrated. With the dust long settled from the grunge era, I believe STP's music has endured better than most of their peers and will flourish on classic rock radio for years to come.

Myles Kennedy as a guitarist in Alter Bridge. He gets respect as a vocalist, but most people assume all of the lead guitar work is done by Tremonti. However, a lot of the great hooks and solos are actually Myles.

We had a thread on the Boston guy already.

Vito Bratta from White Lion should be remembered in the same breath as guys like Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, and Hendrix, but is largely forgotten except by music nerds.

Tony Stevens, bassist from Foghat.

Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted.

His style was fairly meat-and-potatoes, but the band lost a great deal of its energy and stage presence with his departure. I feel he was a big part of the band's down-to-earth, everyman vibe, which has also taken a hit since he left the scene.

Neil Finn has had a 40 year career with the most beautiful melodies since Paul McCartney, yet in America he’s barely recognized.

Goddamn you Hoodie. I couldn't wait to get done scrolling to post my fresh take that was pretty much exactly what you did. I'll add that his background vocals were also underrated and match up perfectly with Hetfield's. Rob Trujillo has been in the band longer and may be a better player, but he's always stuck out like a sore thumb and has horrific stage presence

I saw Nikki Sixx claimed he was the most underrated bass guitarist out. He got into some pissing match with someone on twitter about it. He tried to justify it by saying he did some stuff musically that wasn't conventional. Kinda comical to read.

Motley Crue put out some good rock, besides Mick Mars, they weren't the most technical rockers out there though. Nothing wrong with it, but when you can hear slight deviations in rhythm even in recorded songs, it kinda tells you that they aren't students of music.

My $.02 is Rush. Their music for me at least was an acquired taste, but there was nobody more magical behind a drum kit than Neil Pert.

Steve Stevens (Billy Idol's guitarist) was incredibly talented. Would have liked to see him in a rock band that allowed his talents to really shine.
