I just don't get it. Every day is another shitty drake thread or cheesy pop song that can hardly be considered music anymore. I'm not even 28 and the decline of quality of radio is astonishing. Every day I passed people at Berklee who were absolute masters on their crafts, knew multiple instruments and every shred of theory surrounding them, and would make little to no money with it because of today's music scene. I'll use drake because he seems popular on this board. His inspirations are lil Wayne and kanye west? Are you fricking kidding me? Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, the ink spots, ray Charles, were all black musicians who worked their asses off to create and be respected. I literally see ZERO videos of "drake" playing an instrument. How in the frick can he be considered a musician? This is a MUSIC board. I'm sick of seeing so many retards discuss which talentless flavors of the week they think are momentarily cool.

Everyone can listen to whatever the hell they want. But unless you know how to play something other than stairway or wish you were here on your shitty acoustic fender (which may even be advanced for some of the hip hop guys), you honestly have no worthwhile opinion. Go take some theory classes. frick Drake.

Why are you so mad?

Drake plays piano and guitar

Most likely better than you.

What do you play?

I'm a studio musician
I play piano, guitar, bass, mandolin, cello, and violin
If he's got a video of him playing I'd love to see it please post.
Otherwise yeah I think we can all play chopsticks and have some dude tie my loose ideas together and not get credit for it.

If he plays instruments why doesn't he do it live?

I have two full length albums on iTunes which I wrote and played everything on, including vocals, as well as playing B3, keys, and strings on 10 or so other artists studio

I don't think you even remember when.

You know, there's a ton of good music out there. You just have to find it. It's why I don't listen to the radio. People don't put little known artists on here because those threads never get more than 2 replies. They'd rather stick to trolling other threads.

If this board was better policed, it would be much better for discussion for artists not named Phish, Mumford, or drake.

I don't know much about Drake, but I do know that it takes talent to compose beats and compositions, and often times these do not involve any type of instrument other than a computer.

You sound like a retard. In today's world, a computer is a musical instrument, and if it was so easy to create catchy beats on a computer, why isn't everyone doing it?

I obviously don't remember anything pre 90's, I can't. But even 90's hip hop was subjective and tasteful. The audience for this stuff is so dumbed down that music had to dumb down. I don't know any credible musician that would praise many artists today barring the bands that play actual live music and not to a backing track and some tool on a Mac book.

They are. No one is learning the fundamentals of music besides academy people.

It's just such a dumb argument. Musicians can't evolve with technology? Computers allow you to create all kinds of layers and compositions, but because retards like olddawg believe that you have to have the standard guitar/bass/drum set, songs created on computers are not composed by the "fundamentals of music".

olddawg, you have to remember that the age range that posts here contains quite a few youngsters. I didn't have the most polished musical tastes when I was in my teens either. I know there was stuff I was listening to back then that I would not be able to stomach today. If message boards were around back then, I probably would have been posting about this shitty music that I thought was great.

Why is a 4/4 the default beat? Why does it make the most sense?

Why does a GBDGDG structure create the G chord

Raising and lowering 3rds and 5ths create major/minor/augmented/diminished why?

Basic shite. That no one today knows or cares about, besides the people in the long haul.
