Nickelback wasn’t as bad as people made them out to be

The State was a very good album IMO. I forgot how many songs I actually like off that album until I decided to play it recently. After that it kind of went downhill but I think they are better than people give them credit for.

why are people trying to convince the internet that nickelback was good in 2022?

Most definitely. They have some catchy tunes. It became cliche to hate on them and I’m not really sure why

I have yet to see a Nickelback hater that wasn't jumping on the bandwagon, envious, simply a bitter person in general, or all of the above.

Meanwhile, I just Googled "how many records has Nickelback sold" and the answer that came back is "50 million."

I wish I sucked like that.

Nickelback wasn’t hated for their music not being listenable. It was hated for being repetitive. They wrote a couple good songs and then copied the same formula over and over until people were sick of it.

The only people I know who would say this actually liked their terrible music, at some point.

They are only "not that bad" when you compare them to another shitty band from the 21st century.

The New Kids and Limp Bizkit sold a lot of albums too. Might want to go out and grab their entire discographies...assuming that you don't already own them.

Don’t be ashamed of what you like. Besides, the whole hating Nickelback meme took off on the internet mostly because a bunch of teenage girls blamed Chad (singer of Nickelback) for breaking up Avril Lavigne and Derek (front man of Sum 41). That was the seed from which the hate meme spread. Internet “cool to hate” memes surrounding certain bands are fascinating to me. Just look at how that one line in the movie “The 40 Year-Old Virgin” popularized hating Coldplay, or how “The Big Lebowski” made it cool to hate The Eagles among people born after they broke up.

Also, don’t act like you’ve never had a good time when “Break Stuff” by Limp Bizkit came on.

I didn't need the internet to tell me that they sucked. Back in the late 90s, my brother knew that Pearl Jam was my favorite band(at the time) and told me that there was this new band that sounded like them and that he really thought that I'd like them. It was Nickelback and I hated them instantly.

It's like all of the Creed fans that claimed that their music sounded like Pearl Jam. Neither sounds anything like Pearl Jam...not that Pearl Jam is anything amazing. Just don't hear any similarities in their music...at all.

80 million and 40 million in sales respectively, Google says. And thanks for helping me make my point.

They do get a bad rap. They’re really no worse than a lot of those post-grunge bands in the 90s. Many of them could be the punchline that Nickelback is today.

You replied to me, but quoted comments from somebody else. That's kind of weird how that happens. I just made a joke about getting a dollar back. It was a math joke.

If your point was that there are a lot of people out there that have bad taste in music and are easily influenced by whatever is being pushed as trendy at the time, "no problem".

Because in comparison to all of the acts out there today they are the Beatles.

Can you elaborate? there's a lot of music that goes that route.

I'll admit, I don't know anything about them. I'm being dead serious. I probably could recognize some songs but I can't name one. I feel like they're in the cool to hate group like The Eagles.
