Only Children is a beautiful song

Only Children is quite possibly the best writing Isbell has done since Southeastern.

I think overall this is a collection of good songs but not a great album. I also think he’s went to the Dave Cobb well one too many times. It’s like he tried to remake Southeastern and that just can’t be done.

I agree with 1 and 2.
I put dreamsicle at 3 and overseas at 4.
Agree with 5.
Numbers 7 and 8 move up one spot each and it gets easier drops to 8.
Agree with 9 and 10.

Southeastern didn’t get the love it deserved.

I feel that way about Something More Than Free and Speed Trap Town.

Two great songs.

St. Peter's Autograph was written in regards to Neal Casal.

BJ knocked it out of the park with Lamentations.

Overseas is my favorite. He has been playing it for nearly a year at shows and when the time came to record in studio it was done in one take and was perfected.

Am I the only one who thinks “Only Children” is easily the best track and a top tier Isbell song in general?

No, I agree completely

ill be honest, i just listened to the acoustic album release concert and i thought it was killer. i liked the acoustic versions better than the album versions.

I'll be honest. I think the album is a boring, steaming pile of dogshit.

it's going to get huge reviews from all of the music sites no doubt but he's written much better albums in the past. there are some good songs on the record but it's a far cry for me what he's put out in the past. it's just kinda blah to me. the production is the same and hasn't evolved at all and to me the songwriting just isn't really memorable.

after three listens, this stuff is pretty boring and mediocre. some songs are just plain bad, some are boring, and some are decent and deserve an occasional listen.

I feel like there's 3 songs on it that are pretty good but I don't really care to listen to them much again. I listened to the record over the weekend 4 times through and a few songs multiple listens after that. I know there's a lot of work put into making the record but it's kinda boring. It just doesn't have the attraction other records had. The writing is fine but it's just not that memorable like "we were vampires" etc

I'll have to listen again to give specifics, but there were several times on the record where I thought "well, I guess it's fair for him to steal from his own songs."

Similar guitar and lyric structure to previous songs.

Agreed. Too bad AA is not more commercially successful.

I agree. It seems uninspired and just kinda meh. I’ll be blasted for this but I think Overseas is the only good song on the album.
