Rock drummers only.

I say Moon No.1 by a mile, and prefer Mitchell to Peart stylistically.

Hon. mention Bill Bruford, Ginger Baker

After watching the Beware of Mr. Baker documentary on Netflix, I'd say Ginger Baker is/was the most talented of all the classic rock drummers by a country mile. Too bad he's such a dick.

I like Moon for lead drumming, Bonham/Mitchell for hard/fast, and Levon for “lyric” drumming. I have no better term for it, but it’s essentially how his rhythm pairs with the emphasis in lyrical notes.

Over the 31 years I've spent drumming, these are the rock-&-roll drummers that influenced me the most:

Pocket/Feel: John Bonham
Technical Proficiency/Musicianship: Neil Peart and Brann Dailor
Style: Steve Smith, Moon, Mitch Mitchell, Sib Hashian and Bobby Blotzer ( I know)

Though not a rock drummer, Dave Weckl is a real badass
