I thought they had a few good tunes.

I wouldn't say they "suck".

The B-52s don’t suck. Now Fred Schneider solo? He sucks.

probably becuase you're an old fart in the year 2022

The B-52s, in my opinion, were very much a "time and place" kinda thing. If you were young and carefree and partying it up in the 1980s there was practically no one better. You're obviously going to look at them in a different lens than you would nearly 40 years later.

I'm sure in 2070 people are going to look back at poppy top 40 radio people from now and be like "holy shite that music sucks".

Naw, I was young and carefree back then and in to alternative music but never loved the B52s. They were fun when they were played at a party and that is probably what their main purpose was. But I never wanted to listen to their stuff otherwise. But they don't suck.

I did. Not bad at all. Not enough to make me dive into their catalog, but much better than Love Shack.

What songs of theirs got airplay? I really only remember "Love Shack" and "Roam". I just turned 40, so I may have missed most of their airtime

Early 52s and REM were both far superior to the later top 40 versions.

I think The B-52s tried to be exactly the opposite of R.E.M.

I thank them for that. There's nothing wrong with music that tries to be fun...except Shiny Happy People.

I mean, outside of Taylor Swift and Beyonce, can anyone even name the stars of the 2000's?

Absolutely the worst time for music in the modern era.

They are/were a college-town frat party dance band. Seen in that light, they are among the best ever.

When all you hear from them on the radio is "Love Shack", of course we'll grow to hate them.

When we go to see them in concert with 1,000 other people, it might not be great, because they are a Frat Party band designed to play at a Frat Party, not an auditorium. So, in concert with 1,000 people - that's just not their element.

It's understandable why, after all of these decades, young people would say that "they suck." They have no idea of what it would be like to be at a College student party where The B-52's are live and in person.
