I love me some Debbie Harry
As far as female solo artists, not sure. I was really into Cat Power (Chan Marshall) at one point.
”What Would the Community Think” is probably my favorite song by her. Metal Heart and The Colors and the Kids are great too. I remember when my wife at the time had a miscarriage I listened to Colors and the Kids over and over

I had the pleasure of seeing Blondie and Nick Lowe at the Fox Theatre in Detroit in 1979. It was fantastic.

Solid list, but needs Emmylou Harris.

Lots of great picks... I'll chip in on jazz & blues based on my actual purchases:
Alice Coltrane
Samantha Fish
Re: Emmylou Harris - not a country fan at all but she is very special.
Re: Taylor Swift - not a fan but not inclined to knock her. She stands up for herself and for her fans, good for her.

Beth Orton - have seen her on tour many times and never disappoints.

Joan Jett
Patsy Cline
Florence Welch
In that order. I know all over the map but that's what does it for me.

Juice Newton had one of the more underrated voices. Sort of a flash in the pan but deserves mention.
Pat Benatar puts on a great show still, sounds just like 1985 and doesn’t look that different, no plastic etc.., amazingly.

Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris would definitely be on my list.

Agreed and I'm going to throw one out there. Karen Carpenter could sing and it's a shame that her eating disorder cut her life and career short.

YEAH, I'm there too.

But she wasn't a solo artist.
But she was, in addition to being the best female vocalist of a band.

Bonnie Raitt and Nicolette Larson (sadly, mostly forgotten) too. All four are in this concert (I linked it in another thread too):
Lowell George Tribute Concert
Judy Collins too. And Karla Bonoff.
ETA: Neko Case too.
