I wouldn't even rank Stairway as LZ's best song.

This list is pretty obviously missing the Rolling Stones. Question is which of their songs is in this tier.

You Can't Always Get What You Want because of its epicness? Satisfaction for its influence? Can't You Hear Me Knocking for its blend of rock and virtuoso? Rocks Off for just being fricking awesome?

Also "Good Vibrations" deserves a spot too. The pocket symphony lives up to the hype and then some.

True, but I don't think any of these songs are the best ones in these artists' catalogs. That being said,

Stairway--unique in its structure/lyrics. Even with the semi-stolen opening riff, it's a cultural icon all to itself. Overplaying is it's only fault.
Bohemian Rhapsody--most unique pop/rock song of all-time (as far as songs that made it big).
A Day In the Life--Ultimate ending to possibly most influential album of all-time.
Comfortably Numb--ranks down on the list of PF songs, IMO, but still one of my faves back in the day.
Freebird (closing out the concert, as always).

Gimme Shelter and Sympathy for the Devil are both better than most of the ones the OP listed.

They're all legendary and I really can't. But I'll try anyway:

1) Stairway
2) Freebird
3) Comfortably Numb
4) Bohemian
5) Day in the Life

(Never was a Beatles fan, but do love that song among a few others).

All are great songs, although Freebird suffers from oversaturation. I think it doesn't have the same lasting effect as the other 4. Those don't ever get old when you hear them, and that puts Freebird solidly in last place for me.

Well put - Stairway has become cliche, but it is an amazing song.
