List out some of favorite bands first show/concert you attended. Add a little context to each.

For me the very first true concert was 1988 REM in Auburn AL, was in HS stayed with a friend's older brother. They had recently released Document Album

89 Widespread Panic 07/22/89 The Nick, Birmingham, AL summer before freshman year at Bama
0: Proving Ground, Stop-Go, Pigeons, Holden Oversoul, Machine, Heaven, Space Wrangler, Worry, Travelin' Light, Barstools and Dreamers, C. Brown > Jam > Impossible, Conrad
E: Ball of Confusion
[Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue

That was the start of over 250 times seen.. Mostly early 90s 90_94 and then all the big yearly shows NYE only missed 1 NYE from 92 to 01.. Have not been to nearly as many post Mikey..just not the same.. I actually liked and thought McConnells sound meshed better.. Don't get me wrong Jimmy Herring is extremely talented (my CSB a buddy had been taking lessons from Jimmy and he invited us to eat and drink with them, we got shitfaced with him, Col Bruce and the other guys at Dugans in Bham before they played-}

1990 Grateful Dead Autzum Stadium Eaugene Oregon.. 2 day shows with Little Feat. Was working in Yellowstone for summer and Jumped in with 2 friends we had made that were from New Orleans. VW Bus. Camped in the lot Friday Night through Sunday..an eye opening experience.. Beautiful weather and we did Drive to coast to camp after Sundays show. We got in the cold arse pacific ocean before we headed back to Yellowstone.

1990 Willie Nelson in Wyoming.. A buddy and I ate a dose we got at the Dead shows and Hitch hiked from Lake Yellowstone to Cody WY,. Some wagon trail festivals and Willie was the headliner was full of cowboys and cowgirls.. To get in we got soot from tailpipe of a deisal truck in lot and made a mark on my wrist to mimmick the entry stamp.. The girls checking just kinda laughed and said go on in.. Had a heck of time dancing with a group of cowgirls in their late 30s early 40s, I was 19.

1990 Allman Brothers and George Thorogood at Redrocks
just great venue and 2 really good bands.

1990 Phish the Ivory Tusk TTown. They played on a random Wednesday night that fall. Might have been 200 people max Phishman was wearing a Superman Dress and used a vacuum in mike for sound effects.

93 Rolling Stone in Bham

94 Pink Floyd Bham Division Bell Tour.. Was really damn good. No Roger Waters so technically never did get to see a true Pink Floyd concert.

Foo Fighters outside and then U2 at the super dome for MNF after Katrina

Most other notables would have been at a Jazzfest, the Hoard festivals, City Stages, Memphis in May, early 90s.

Got to see some really good bands early 90s in bars, fraternity houses.. WSP Phish, blues travelers, Col Bruce and Aquarium Rescue, Dave Matthews, Galactic, String Cheese, Santana at Tips, some that are not as nearly as well known but were always a good time.. Allgood, Dave the truly dangerous swamp band, Blues Old stand, The Grounders_ Undergrounders, Roadside Attraction, JD and the Jammers - buy a few 8balls and JD would play all night

First concert I went to was:

Ozzy/Metallica, August 3rd, 1986. Hampton Coliseum
Metallica was touring with Master of Puppets. James had broken his arm and was only singing. John Marshall of Metal Church was playing his parts from behind the curtain. It turned out to be the last North American concert that Cliff played before leaving for the ill-fated European tour. Live recordings of this show were released on the Remastered Deluxe Box Set of Master of Puppets. Brought back many memories

Ozzy was touring with The Ultimate Sin. It was the whole spangly robe/entrance from above thing. Jake on guitar. I was close enough for Ozzy to throw water on me 3 times.

I got two guitar picks from the show. One from Kirk Hammett and one from Phil Soussan, bassist for Ozzy.

The best show I've ever been to was:

David Gilmour at the Hollywood Bowl. March 25th, 2016
He played for 3 hours with an intermission. First half of the show ended with High Hopes which was outstanding. Second half ended with Comfortably Numb. I was sitting right in the middle. When the lasers shot over my head for the solos... it was practically a religious experience.

1986 Ozzy "Ultimate Sin" tour in Houston. Saw Jake E. Lee, Metallica with Cliff at 14.

a very close second was Lalapalooza 92? 93? in NOLA. First hearing of Tool and Rage ATM at 20 or 21.

Both were life changing.

Then there's the show we didn't see, even though we had 3 tickets at the LSU Assembly Center in 1977...the one cancelled due to a shitty pilot and shittier plane going down en route.

My sister was 16, my brother 12, and I was 5. Took me a very long time to fully understand why they were both so devastated.

I mean, years. But I got it, eventually.

Bigtime.

First concert was Peter Paul & Mary at the PMAC when I was a kid in the mid 90s. My parents dragged me and my sister to it

My favorite was seeing Lionel Ritchie at a private event in the River Center in the late 2000s.

Greatest Hits

April 4, 1986 - Centroplex - VAN HALEN - 5150 tour
- my first concert. I had become a huge Van Halen fan between tours and when the new song hit the radio and there was no DLR I was confused. I was going to see them regardless. Even if I only had enough money for either the concert tix or the cassette. I went and saw 3/4 of my heroes blast out a good time. Never got to see the original line up but I’ll always remember Eruption.

November 26, 1987 - Assemby Center - U2 - Joshua Tree tour
- Stood in line all night - 10th in line - get to the ticket window and my seats are behind the stage. They open with Where the streets have no name and hit the house lights right before Bono starts signing. All you see are waving arms of a packed P-MAC. Goosebumps

November 18, 1989 - McAlister Auditorium - PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED (PIL) - 9 Tour
- I snuck a tape recorder in - wish I still had the recording - Lydon to fans requesting Sex Pistols songs, “We’re not playing any of that old shite tonight”.

October 9, 1992 - Saenger theater - The BLACK CROWES - High as the Moon Tour (2nd album)

- When the string of lights curtains pulled back on the first song and the band kicked in we rushed the stage. Awesome show, Chris called out some execs in the first few rows for sitting down during the show.

November 16-17, 1993 - UNO Lakefront arena - PEARL JAM - VS. tour
- I’d seen them open for the Chili Peppers with The Smashing Pumpkins but they were JUST getting MTV rotation. They were gracious enough to play 2 varied sets for the back to back nights

February 21, 2006 - N.O. HOB - BETTER THAN EZRA
- Straight from the parade route to the stage - lead by a full marching band! If DUMPSTAFUNK hadn’t got you ready to party this did.

March 28, 2006 - Verizon Theater - OASIS - Don’t Believe the Truth tour
- These guys sell out stadiums in Europe - to see them in a relatively small venue was incredible.

October 5, 2013 - the Varsity - THE ARCTIC MONKEYS - AM tour
- Huge fans and they are here. In Baton Rouge and I’m 3 rows from the stage and they put on a really great show.

Greatest Misses

- 1989 - Stones - Superdome - Steel Wheels Tour
- 1988 - INXS - N.O. - Kick Tour
- Dec. 1993 - NIRVANA - N.O. - In Utero Tour - Kurt would be dead in 4 months
May 1994 - PINK FLOYD - Division Bell Tour - BIGGEST REGRET - could’ve went - instead went to a very lame graduation party. So sad

Hey Freep, yes you still owe me lunch and no I can't remember (CRS) the specifics of our bet. It's been at least 5 years... So with interest and penalties you can just cash app me $350 and we'll call it even.

You still in PCola? I'm still here in OBAL.. On 4~10 at 330am we got absolutely hammered by a hail (tennis ball to softball size-someone reported it was a record breaking size) storm . It was the most intense 20min of weather I've been through and that includes the multitude of tropical storms and hurricane that I've stayed for since move here full time in 01. At one point I thought we're about to get blown away by a tornado. We were watching it just absolutely dump hail most were tennis ball sized and then the wind picked up to 70+ and had a weird sound so we ran to a safer spot in house for about 5min.

There were thousands of cars that got fricked at the condos on the beach, those vacationers will never forget that trip. If you haven't seen any of the pictures Search for pictures on Facebook or Google it.

Did $10k damage to my Jeep. Hope to get it in shop in the next few weeks. My metal roof will need to be replaced, broke an 140mph impact rated window, and it broke one of my hardiboard siding panels. I have an estimate of $46k to repair it all. the adjuster is coming today. He said every metal roof he has inspected have all needed to be replaced.

My first show was 3-4-83 with Vandenburg opening for Ozzy on his Speak of the Devil tour in Biloxi, MS. Unfortunately the great Randy Rhoads had passed away the previous year but Brad Gillis did an admirable job on lead guitar. I left that show quite impressed by the talents of Ozzy's drummer Tommy Aldridge.

Daaaaamn, I'd heard it was pretty nasty down towards the Gulf. We had torrential rain here in Pcola, woke up at 4am to the sound of a very close lightning strike, followed by my stereo shorting out - blew up my U-verse modem and settop box as well, and lost power for about 4 hours. Oh, and the living room sprang a leak, as we are STILL waiting for the roofers to come and repair the damage Sally wrought in September...and so it goes...

Got an old AU buddy on his way to OB, will be spending some time with him this week, maybe I'll get around to getting you that lunch

First was KISS, Asylum tour at UNO. First of I believe 8 times I've seen them.

Best was honestly the GnR reunion tour at the dome. Played for around 3 hours.
