So when I was like 12 (1995) I was into the oldies. We had a couple stations in Nashville 96.3 and 90.9 I think that played the oldies. All the Big Bopper, Four Seasons, and Righteous Brothers you could handle. Do those stations even exist anymore? I could sing the hell out of Chantilly Lace.

KAAY clear channel giant in Little Rock, rock music late at night
Dumped a few pounds of pocket change into pay phones calling long distance into Beaker St to request records during high school. Got through to Clyde Clifford several times.
Here’s a classic segment from the show.

Clyde introduced a lot of us to the greatness of acts like Pink Floyd, Bloodrock, King Crimson, John Prine and many, many more.
Will never forget this one :

99X in Atlanta. Some 96 Rock too but by the time I was in HS it was all 99X. I believe they were one of the most prominent alternative stations for a stretch and did a ton of live events (Big Day Out, Chinese New Year, Brouhaha, Live X, etc.)

105.9 The Bear in BHM back in 90s
107.7 The X was good too.
I checked out of radio early 2000s for digital media.

In Cleveland it was WMMS( Weed Makes Me Smile) 100.7 The Buzzard . They were the kings until Howard Stern came into Cleveland market . When he became #1 in Cleveland he and his whole show came to town to hold a rally and they chopped the head off of a big fake buzzard BUT ,halfway through their broadcast WMMS sent a rogue warrior in and cut there feed lines .it was quite a circus

99X in Atlanta
He went on to work at WABB in the late 70s, where I got to know Leslie Fram who went on to 99X. She was cute as hell back in her Mobile days.
My friend drifted around AL at various stations and ended up back at WABB in the early 90s, and shared an apartment with Will Pendarvis, who later worked with Howard Stern in NY and is now Music Director for SiriusXM.

103.3 KDF Nashville was the classic rock station. Bubba Skynyrd got his Krystals and Busch beer for date night.

KSMB, before it became a disco station
KSMB was awesome back in the mid to late 70s when I was in high school.
Got exposed to a lot of album oriented rock that I might never have otherwise heard.
Truly was sad when it turned to crap.
