Being that the beloved music venue may be a lost treasure, what were some of the best shows you saw there? Post year if you remember...

Rusted Root 1994ish
Phunk Junkees, the first time they played. 1995?
Collective Soul 96

The Toadies
Robert Earl Keen (Kasey Chambers opened for him)

Both in the mid to late 90’s I think.

not necessarily my favorite shows and in no particular order but remarkable events based on the artist

1. Public Enemy with No Doubt (1992 maybe)
2. Pavement (95')
3. Jayhawks
4. Wilco (1999)
5. Dave Matthews Band (91 or 92)
6. White Zombie or Marilyn Manson or Danzig (all passed through separately)
7. Breeders with The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Faith Healers
8. Sheryl Crow or Tori Amos ... both passed through separately
9. ICE T with Body Count (stabbing at the show)
10. Lucinda Willams (Car wheels tour ... )

Probably Yellowcard in 2016 or Yngwie in 2019.

Some other noteworthy shows:
Robert Randolf & the Family Band: 2009
Jet: 2010
Cage the Elephant: 2010
Hawthorne Heights: 2010
Switchfoot: 2012 and 2015
Mutemath: 2014 (maybe?)
Zoso in both 2011 and 2017
The Sword: 2018
Clutch and Devin Townsend Project in 2017 (I think)

Plus dozens and dozens and dozens of local band shows.

Besides seeing the James Bond Film Festival, Casablanca and Das Boat when it was a theater here are the top five.

5. Hoodoo Gurus @‘92-93
4. Social Distortion @‘92-‘93
3. The Cult 2001 (spring show) daughter conceived.
2. Dash Rip Rock with Dick Nixons opening. (Halloween ‘93). Motorcycles on stage, pumpkin carnage. It was off the charts fun.
1. The Cult 2901 (fall show) their roadie had gotten beat up the night before in Baton Rouge. They were outstanding with a violent energy.

Too bad they are shutting it as a live music venue and just doing private events now. It is a great room.

Not true, and confirmed it today. Brent is back managing and booking the Varsity. Already building his calendar for next year and staffing up. It’s happening, baws

Probably Spoon in 2017. I have seen bands that I like more than Spoon there before (Built to Spill, Neutral Milk Hotel), but that Spoon show was really good.

The Cult (multiple years)
Incubus (multiple years)
Sevendust (2014'ish)
Queensryche
Liquid Sand

And finally the Bangles (2016 ish) - I never listened to them on the radio but it was a fun concert.

Would have loved to see Rusted Root

Yikes .... lot's of mediocre listings in this thread. Maybe you guys are thrilled then the uninspired, vapid former talent buyer is returning from the CASINO circuit.

Thankfully the new Chelsea's is opening ... they will get it right.

Still the only show where they required metal detectors (I think)!
