Name a song or album when a band put out a big disappointment.
I heard Crazy from Aerosmith today and thought back to a time when that band really disappointed me with that song and Walk this Way which was another band's crap (Run DMC). Aerosmith was great at one time.

Elton John spiraled way down, IMO. His early days absolutely rocked. Went 100% wrong direction. When Nigel Olssen and Davey Johnstone left EJ sucked.

Metallica - St. Anger
I was in 8th grade and had been getting hugely into Metallica for the past two years
First new album in years from my new favorite band - even though the two singles that had been released were mediocre at best, I still had hope
Drove with my dad to Best Buy on release day to pick up some copies
Drive back home played the album and neither one of us said anything
Later that day after a listen we both agreed it was dogshit
To this day still one of my biggest letdowns

The Connells - Weird Food and Devastation. I liked at least some of all their previous albums. The previous album, Ring, may have been their most solid beginning to end. Their next one wasn't terrible. How they missed so bad with this one is just strange.

Audioslave - Out of Exile
That first Audioslave album was so damn good. Front to back, soup to nuts. It is still one of my favorite rock albums ever. Better than there output as Rage and that is saying something because Rage was killer.
But, that second album was just a letdown. Nothing memorable, stale, and boring stuff. Felt like it was mailed in. Then their third album as Audioslave was about the same.

Foreigner's 1977 album rocked my arse off then there was Double Vision (1978), then 1979s Head Games. Even Foreigner 4 in 1981 still hit nice and hard. But when they started crying in 1984 with "I Want to Know What Love Is" off of Agent Provocateur , I lost interest. I hoped for more rock again in 1987 with "Inside Information" but there was more crying with "Say You Will".

Don't like that classic?

For me, Distant Relatives was a major disappointment. After Damian Marley’s masterpiece Welcome to Jamrock with his collab with Nas Road to Zion, I thought Distant Relatives would revolutionize the fusion of reggae and rap. After waiting 5 years, DR was finally released. I bought it the first day. After listening, my only thought was “I waited 5 years for THIS?” Even today, DR is a solid “meh” and I thought I would never say that about Nas!

While you will lose the up/down vote stats, you are 100% correct. They changed bigly. Are those albums more palatable for mass consumption? Yes, but they aren't the RHCP sound

1984 by Van Halen. I remember listening to Diver Down and thinking that was way too many covers and weird stuff but 1984 and its synth driven pop was quite a shock to me. No surprise it was the end of them with the Van Hagar crap taking them even lower.

I expected that, but that's just me. To expect someone, or anyone to agree is presumptuous with music. It is what we feel, moments of personal time, and how we appreciate the things that gives us the energy we seek and what may turn that off.
Music is the one area that can't be competative because we draw our likes and dislikes from different influences. Nobody is right, nobody is wrong. Everyone is happy with what they mash the play button to.There's no reason to be a dick over something one doesn't like. I am grateful that people can find harmony with their selected choice, whether that's popular with the crowd or not.

Theatre of Pain.
First two albums were outstanding. ToP, not so much.
