Dionne Warwick: I don't think there's any classic or iconic music artists in today's music

When asked if today’s music also has classics, Warwick laughed and said, firmly, “Not yet.”

“I don’t know if 10 years from now, anybody can actually sing the songs of our babies today. That’s not, as you guys say, ‘throwing shade,’ it’s looking at it with reality,” she explained.

And while Warwick is a fan of Beyoncé (and a possible Bey-hive member), she’s not convinced that Bey’s a classic or iconic artist.

“I love her to death and can appreciate her talent. But that iconic status, it’s a long road [ahead],” Warwick said.

I can't say I disagree. How many songs have dropped in recent years that will be remembered 10, 20 years from now? Very few I bet.

I won’t disagree but in 20 years I will think the current music is even worse than today, which is a sign that I am becoming an old man.

Well, this invalidates the entirety of her rambling.

Adele popped into my head as one who may be; her voice is iconic IMO.

I think she has that staying power

It is the internet's fault.

There's no gatekeepers anymore.

It was supposed to be a good thing. Anyone can make a record on their computer. Anyone can self-publish.

Turns out, it's a shite show.

I’m so shocked an old c list singer would have this take.

Now don't be hating on "revolutionary" artists like

Post Malone
Lil Wayne
Miley Cyrus(who does have a great voice)
TSwift
Ariana Grande
Cardi B
Lil Nas

Beyonce has been in the biz for over 20 years. Exactly how long do you need to be on top to be regarded "iconic"?

Dionne peaked in the golden age of rock and roll, Soul and R&B, so of course she thinks this. A transformational album dropped every month in those days. We now live in the derivative age of popular music. It’s a different deal.

Artist used to write songs for movies, now movies just use old songs. Part of it could be the talent isn't around as much as it was.

A lot still do.

It just isn't top 40 anymore. You can find your own music now and it's more plentiful than ever.

There’s more good music now than ever before. If you can’t find it, you’re lazy.
