re: Dionne Warwick: I don't think there's any classic or iconic music artists in today's music

How can one say that when there are more ways to release music right now than ever before? The reason there were so many “legends” is because the only way they could get popular is through their music being played on the radio, and everyone heard it.

Music has become a commodity. Especially Pop Music. But to say that there is no classic or iconic music artists today is dumb. They're not on the radio, probably not even wining grammy's, but they are out there. I also believe Ms. Warwick is severely underestimating the power of nostalgia.

She's right, Beyonce is garbage, but there are lots of iconic artists today, like Lady Gaga, JT, Adele and Drake.
They might seem crap now but in 20 years it'll be hero worship like it is for Madonna and Prince from the 80's, Pearl Jam, Nirvana and RHCP from the 90's.
Back in the day those acts were considered crap, just like the current artists. The only major icon who was an icon from day one was Michael Jackson. It took years to "appreciate" the artistry of Madonna. Back in the 80's she was just a slut who pandered to the gay house and LGBT scene with a good producer, now a living legend.
The real problem is not the pop artists but the formal music composers. Where are the Stravinsky's and Brahm's of the late 20th and 21st century? Now we just have Skrillex, Marshmello, Diplo and maybe Riff Raff. All iconic but probably won't stand the test of time like Mozart or Bach.

Peaks and valleys bro. We are in a Valley now. Doesn’t mean there isn’t greatness. Just that there isn’t a Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, James Brown and a dozen others in one genre at one time . There was a peak once. Now there is a Valley. Still genius but LESS of it.

In 20 years people listening to today's (c)rap will be nostalgic over it, the same way 90s kids now look back to the "good rap" of 20 years ago

I’d take the 90s over the 80s Of “ my day” any time. But I’d take the 70s and 60s before the 90s too. The 80s was rough imho, kind of like now.

There are no more classic or iconic songwriters like Burt Bacharach, either.

None of the current "hit" making artists can touch what Bacharach, Hal David and Dionne Warwick did. She is correct.

Amy Winehouse I think would fit the bill.
