How many of those are recognizable to teenagers now?

My teens have 80s playlists. But they don't have all of the other playlists I have.

The 80s was possibly the best decade of music. Think of it as still having 70s music along with newer 80s styles then early 90s styles of music

Lots of respect for Mrs Cleo, but she needs to keep in mind people still know the words to Ice Ice Baby.

Depends on what she means by "today." The Stones are still around and touring "today" and are one of the most iconic bands ever.

Or maybe she means artists who got their start "today." Well, how would anyone who just started "today" have time to be iconic?

Or maybe we can loosen the definition of "today" to mean the last 10 years? OK fair enough. How about GaGa? Weird arse bitch but she is pretty iconic. Adele will be in that league. Lana Del Ray is probably going to be in that league as well, since she has a sorta unique style (I mean she copied her style from lesser known artists, but she was smart to do that).

There are no white male artists today who are icons, I admit. But it's not cool to be a white male anymore and probably never will be again (unless you act like Eminem). This means there are no iconic rock bands whatsoever (since black ppl universally hate rock even though they invented it).

To be successful you must be one of the following:

1) A rapper or Hip Hop guy
2) A Female who has no talent but can dance and shite
3) Someone with a very odd or experimental style (not many of these around anymore).

I think part of the problem is everything has been done. You're never gonna have another Elvis because there's nothing to "invent" like that anymore. I mean the electric guitar was a new invention in those days. What do we have now like that? Computer generated sound of some sort?

Now take 2019, do you think the top 50 songs of 2019 will be recognizable to someone who's a teenager in 33 years?

Yes because it is what they are more than likely currently listening to

Most educated, white young people in know listen to 70s and 80s primarily. They also listen to other stuff but not as often

Do you know what the term iconic means? Radio airplay doesn't determine that so much anymore.

Just because some hipsters can listen to bands few have heard of on Spotify and proclaim it great music doesn’t make it iconic

yes there are some great bands that can be found if you know where to look, in some ways thats great and in others it’s not
