I agree, and they are killing off rock radio as well. These kids just don't have a shot nowadays.

Correct. It's no coincidence that the end of the Cold War and relative prosperity of the 90s killed the white mans blues.

I guess it depends on which era we are talking about. I’m saying the crucible created the music. At least it was a component of it

You ca say the same thing about politicians.

Prosperity ended in 1970
Rock was the British mans game until then.

Rock ended circa 2008.
Well maybe im being facetious but the only current band I listen to is Rise Against.

Lulwut?
So Tool and Linkin Park didn't make new genres? Cool.

Eh, rock evolved. Genres should be judged on their own. I don’t think there isn’t good new music coming out. I think it just isn’t being played on the radio.

Mid 90s signaled the beginning of the death spiral. There's residue around, but suburban and urban upper middle class kids aren't feeling the struggle.

That I can 100% agree with.
So much of this pussyhat music is getting passed off over the air as "rock."

Did just that in the Assembly Center circa 1974-5 and flicked my Bic lighter. Allan Parsons was the engineer on that album-which I still have.
Might have been Wish You Were Here..

Guns n Roses and Metallica are packing in football stadiums and rock festivals are drawing huge crowds all over the country but Bon Jovi isn't on MTV every day anymore so rock is dead.

I wish I could say this. How about it dying in 1991. I'd say even earlier, but that year had a few anthems still around in Thunderstruck and Enter Sandman among others.
The 90s had a few decent bands, the grunge ones, otherwise just a mixed bag of rap and pop songs from Mariah, etc. Then somehow it got even worse. All rap shite, and not even Mariah. Rock was virtually nonexistent with quality.
But, to answer the OP, I do think that great songs when they came out, at least in the 80s, it brought people together. Guys would get together to listen to the new Motley Crue album. Have ACDC jamming in the car speakers.
Always showing off your new stereo with some new Rush or Queen.
Then turn the lights down and play some easy Foreigner, Journey, or REO for your girl when she came over.
What is there now to put somebody in a mood?

I was born in 86. Linkin Park was a pretty big staple for kids my age.
I still remember the goofy commercials for One Step Closer and promoting their album Hybrid Theory. They essentially owned the market starting in 00's and saved us from bads like fricking Good Charlotte and Sum 41 :barf: .
The 4 bands of my childhood/teendom: Green Day, KoRn , Linkin Park , and Tool.

This place was better when there wasn’t a board for everything. I remember some great music discussions on here.
I never go to the music board.
Aside...I discovered this chick a few months ago. It’s beautiful.
Lindsey Stirling
She plays the violin. It’s incredible
