Rock's not dead. It just no longer pleases the starmaker machinery.

So Tool and Linkin Park didn't make new genres? Cool.

Tool was well established by 94 and not to dig at Linkin Park too much but if they were considered a standard bearer it just furthers the point that popular rock was in a tailspin by that point.

This shite has to be a troll. No one can be this ignorant, right?

Radio for the most part sucks. It’s lowest common denominator trash. Listen to good music. It still exists.

Hybrid Theory sold 16 million copies. Definite indicator of rock being in a tailspin.

I'd leave my entire family behind for Taylor Momsen. No question. She's my #1

You missed the point on that one.

No it isn’t.

Saying rock is in a tailspin because you’re taking one sub genre of rock and applying it to the entire genre of rock is stupid.

Branch out of radio top 40 bullshite, people. Christ.

Royal Blood does good work.
I think Rise Against and Highly Suspect are promising as well.

I assumed from the OP we were discussing popular rock. Most of my favorite bands never sniffed the top 40.

Godsmack has a new album out with two really good songs on it. Bulletproof and When Legends Rise.

Chris Jericho's band Fozzy had a couple hits recently in Judas and Painless.

Shinedown has a new album too but I've only heard one song from it so far.

There's lots of great rock music still being made. No argument there.

I’ve actually gravitated to female singers. Halsey, Lana Del Ray, jasmine thompson, etc.
Not Rock at all but they just captivate me.

I am not a huge fan of the female lead singer rock bands. I just listened to a few songs of the Pretty Wreckless and I thought it was meh. I don't hate them just not my style I guess

Lazy whiners who think rock is gone b/c it's not being spoon fed to them on whatever Jack FM station they listen to on the way to work.

The music business has changed a lot but world changing albums don’t exist anymore.

There will never be anything like Appetite for Destruction or Nevermind in this day and age.

They're few and far between but I like a few female or female led bands. The Gits and Sleater-Kinney come to mind. Some of them almost treat it like a gimmick though and I'm not into that.

We live in the halcyon days. That’s why so much new mainstream music sucks. It’s not born out of pain.

Yeah this is a simplistic take. It sounds cool and I guess it fits into your worldview, but it isn't really true. The mainstream recording industry is the real problem. They'd rather record everything through EZ Drummer or through Logic with a click and quantize the track so any color is lost completely. It's super rare that you can find a band that records live. Most talented kids don't have any way to sustain themselves or even figure out how they want to write songs, especially compared to the older days when musicians actually got paid. Mainstream labels don't want to take chances and don't see how important the slight imprecision was, as it makes it human. In terms of being a musician, it's worse now than it's ever been. I've played bass for 15 years, and I still have friends who are trying to make it through music, but most have given up and gotten day jobs. They might play on the weekends or something.

Until something changes in mainstream music, you won't see anything like the 60's through 90's, and it's certainly not because we are living in some utopia or at the end of one.

Back when the country was strong you had rock music that was fricking awesome. Just jamming electric guitar solos and shite. What do we have nowadays? A bunch of computers.
If Tab Benoit plays within a 100 mile radius of your position - go see him - straight from the telecaster to amp - no pedals.
