Better Pumpkins album: Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie?

I personally lean Siamese Dream. Mostly because Geek USA is one of my favorite songs of all time. Badass solo, and Jimmy tears the drums up. To be honest, if it wasnt for Disarm and Sweet Sweet this could almost be a perfect album. Theres also just a certain sound texture of the album that I just love that I don't feel like Mellon Collie has.

Siamese Dream, one of the best albums of the 90s.
Mellon Collie has some great songs, but being a double album hurt it’s overall quality. Too many songs that should have been b sides at best.

Siamese Dream is my favorite album of all time. Mellon Collie is also incredible. However i do think it’s sheer size impacts it as a succinct album.

Siamese Dream is just more consistent (obviously being a single LP rather than double) and has what seems to be generally considered the band's greatest two efforts in Cherub Rock and Today. In addition to a greater median quality of tracks I hold the production value to be more attractable - perfect amount of layering whereas Mellon Collie tends to be overproduced at times.
One quasi unique aspect of the band is its singles are usually regarded as their best work rather than random album tracks by most critics, my self included.

Both are amazing but Dream is just amazing start to finish
Bit of filler in MC.

I'd rather listen to an album of cats coughing up hairballs than either one of them.

I go back and forth because I love both albums, but Siamese Dream has always had a slight edge. It is a perfect album.

I liked Mellon Collie more growing up.
No other band in that scene at the time could have made that album and pulled it off. I had always seen the pumpkins as another band in the mix, then bullet with butterfly wings came out and it was fresh to me.
I dont like all of the songs on the album as I believe there is a lot of filler. I appreciate it more for what it is and its darker content. Actually liked 2 of the B songs on the Zero single more than actual album songs.
I've never really liked Billy's guitar tone or their production of heavier songs which feel rushed and lazy in the mix, and some of that is evident on MC

By whom? I’ve never heard that in my life.
Siamese Dream is the obvious answer for me. Heck, I prefer Gish to Mellon Collie.

you trolling? Sweet Sweet is fricking brilliant. The lyrics are haunting yet painted with a beautifully melodic yet upbeat orchestration. It's simplicity is part of its charm, and the dichotomy of it is brilliant. Then the flow into the gorgeous Luna, which is a happy love song paired with a sad orchestration, is one of the more perfect moments on any record. These two songs are polar opposites and play off each other wonderfully.
You need to pull up the lyrics and listen to these songs again.
Yes my vote is for Siamese Dream. This is my personal favorite Pumpkins record. The layout of the tracks is fantastic, and the overall sound on it is raw order. I think Melon Collie is more ambitious, but it fails in certain spots and does miss that special sound that Dream has.
Both are great records though

"Here Is No Why" is probably my favorite non-single Pumpkins song, and "Thirty-Three" is probably the best song Corgan's ever written, but I'd still say Siamese Dream is a better album.
In fact, I'd say some of the b-sides from Mellon Collie like "The Aeroplane Flies High" should've been on the actual album and maybe cut down by 5 or 6 songs. It's almost impossible to make an album with 28 songs perfect, but it is still great

Not particularly. I wouldn't call it a bad song, but it's the only song on the album where I really have to be in a certain mood to listen to it. Everything else is pretty universal. I would say it has to do with being overplayed but I dont have the same problem listening to Today so I dont think that's the case. It also just feels out of place after Hummer and Rocket to me. Then Soma and Geek come after, I feel like Disarm kind of interrupts the flow those sequence of songs have

Dang. It's my favorite on the album.

Siamese Dream, and it's not close.
Gish is bad arse too, and much better than Melon Collie.

Agreed that’s a fantastic song. Disarm is the only song off that album I don’t care for much
