I've seen a wide array of rock shows in person but the best live performances by far have been:

Metallica (4x )
Godsmack
Tom Petty

What say you?

Tool (5x)
Meshuggah (Houston 2012)
The Sword (3x)
Eyehategod (multiple times at Siberia)
Down (lots of places)
Clash of the Titans Tour (Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax)

Earliest live show I remember is sneaking into Zeppelins in Fat City to see Crowbar.

Actual first concert I went to? My parents took my sister and I to the Styx Mr. Roboto tour at the MS Coast Coliseum when the babysitter cancelled last minute. I was like 5 or 6.

They really are incredible musicians. The guitar work is so great. My dad is an old school Maiden, Black Sabbath, Skynyrd, Judas Priest, etc fan, and he loves The Sword since I introduced him to them. Even paid for us to fly to Houston last year to go and see them at Fitzgeralds. Score.

The HOB can't seem to figure out how to make The Sword sound decent. They sounded great when I've seen them at the Spanish Moon and even opening for Metallica at the NO Arena but the two times I've seen them at the HOB haven't sounded that great. Last night was a little better at least.

Yeah they sounded good. They played about 7 new songs. I would have rather heard more of some older stuff but it was still cool.

I think that's a common problem with metal acts at the HOB. At least that's what a tech from another venue told me, but what do I know. I saw them twice upstairs at the HOB and once at the place in Houston, and the Houston show was way better sounding.

I'm hesitant to go to the Down show on the 31st just cause of the venue.
