Bands or artists who released great albums long after their "classic" period had ended

Artists that continue to produce records for many years tend to have a life cycle, where you have an early period, generally before they hit it big, when their sound was often raw or even in some cases very different than what they ultimately became known for, a classic period where they released most/all of the records that made them famous, and then (if they didn't break up) a post-classic period where they may have continued to release albums, but rarely anything that caught public attention like their classic stuff. What I'm looking for is, what bands or artists out there do you think released some of their best work during their post-classic period?

I'll offer two: Hawkwind and King Crimson.

Hawkwind's overall best album is, I think, 1975's Warrior on the Edge of Time, but right behind it I would put 1992's Electric Tepee.

King Crimson is obviously best known for 1969's In the Court of the Crimson King, but I prefer 2003's The Power to Believe. There is some truly phenomenal guitar work on that album.

Weezer’s “ Everything Will Be Alright in the End” released 20 years after the blue album.

Pink Floyd's "The Division Bell" comes to mind.

Yeah there's no Roger Waters but F him, it's a beautiful, gloomy album.

Crazy how they mention the Causeway on that album. Hadn't realized Dave Gilmour ever hung out on the Northshore.

Night Ranger released an album in 2021 or 2022 that was incredibly good.

some of the shoegaze bands like Slowdive and Ride put out great late-career/reunion albums in the 2010s. Same with Suede.

The last Rush album, Clockwork Angels, is a masterpiece. And it was a perfect album to end on.

Well those albums were a wild ride. I’d never heard of them before. Have you ever listened to a German band called Eloy? Hawkwind reminded me of some of Eloys stuff.

Big fan of Eloy! 40+ year fan. I still listen to Planets all these years later. Just an awesome record, a masterpiece.

I’d submit Black Sabbath’s ‘Heaven And Hell’ and even ‘Mob Rules’ as great later year albums.

Rolling Stones .
A Bigger Bang in 2005. Very underrated although a somewhat overtly political.

Also Voodoo Lounge in 1994....maybe their best since the early 70's when everything they put out was great

I agree with both of these. Both are very underrated.

Would probably be my pick - a masterpiece decades after fame.

There are better examples of Paul Simon albums to use. Graceland was recorded in 1986 which was five years after he was nominated for a pair of Grammys. “Stranger to Stranger” (released 30 years after Graceland) is a much better place to land with this question.
