Alice in Chains Dirt may be the greatest album of the 90s.

Just listened to it all the way through the past couple days and man what a wire to wire great album. As a hole album only nevermind is close

You mustn't have listened to Aenima, Homogenic, Grace, OK Computer, The Bends, etc etc etc.
I like Dirt a hell of a lot, but Jar of Flies, although an EP, is AIC's best record. That thing is pure brilliance

It's far and away the best of the "Seattle" bands' albums. It absolutely beats to piss anything Pearl Jam ever did.

I bet you like at least two PJ songs.

It's up there but The Downward Spiral (NIN) is #1 for me.

I should've added that to my list. Excellent choice!
I also would add Ministry's Psalm 69 and Rage Against the Machine debut as well.

I think it's the album I most associate with grunge. Or more like the apex of grunge era.

Dirt used to be my favorite AIC album but I like Facelift more now.

It's a very good album and really was the peak of grungeness but it didn't define or make the 90s. Many better albums.

I don't even think Jar of Flies is AiC's best EP. Sap is amazing.
Dirt is a landmark hard rock album. Came out just before grunge exploded, but it got wrapped into it once everyone got successful.

Disagree with OP. But a great album. AIC was not grunge. They were metal all the way--more Metallica than Nirvana. Top 10 of the decade for sure..

Funny you post this thread...
...I pulled out Dirt a couple days ago after it being shelved for 10+ years
Great LP.

Facelift was better, IMO. Both are creative mindfricks of genius. And there's just good ole hard rock in them. None of that Sonic Youth and Radiohead nonsense. Just rock.

Badmotorfinger says hi.
Not saying that Dirt isn't great, though.
