U2 - Pop (1997) - I still don't know what the hell that was.

Mastodon changed a lot after Brent Hinds was almost beat to death.

LOL that was the Stones attempt to out Beatles the Beatles Sgt. Pepper album

Yep, and even the Stones admit it failed in that attempt.
"She's a Rainbow" and "2000 Light Years from Home" are two of my favorite RS songs. The snoring at the end of "Another Land" is classic.

Aren't there other doo wop influences in Zappa's work?

Yeah, Frank played in a wide variety of styles. But there was only one album that was all doo-wop and performed under an assumed name. That one is truly unique.

Joe Jackson - Jumpin Jive

He was an alt rock artist until he came out with a jazz album.

Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska (Americana blues folk)

Good call, excellent album.

I'll go with The Byrds - Sweetheart of the Rodeo

And Elton John - Tumbleweed Connection.

That was an interesting time for music when Rock bands were doing country.

The Offspring’s first self-titled album is old school style punk, whereas everything after is that SoCal pop punk style.

ETA Alanis Morrissette had some 80s style pop releases as a young girl

R.E.M. Monster - Most of the songs featured a lot guitar distortion, which was very different from anything they had done before or since.

Man, I just didn’t like this album when it came out, and for years after you could always find it in record store bargain bins.

But it grew on me over the years, and now I kind of enjoy it.

Dude, I'll never forget the feeling I had after listening to that record in its entirety for the first time. I'd waited over five years for that album and really struggled with just how bad it was. I recall listening to it a few times over, hoping to latch on to something, ANYTHING, good about it...

Grew up with old school 80’s REM but I loved all of Buck’s reverb and distortion on this one. Sounded like a totally different band.

Led Zeppelin III

Aside from Immigrant song, I'd say not many songs get radio play or people know much about.

Fungus Amongus - Incubus

Then followed by S.C.I.E.N.C.E. which sounded nothing like Fungus or the rest of their catalogue after.

The Nu-Metal craze resulted in Primus and Machinehead trying to cash in, with both releasing something far inferior to their standards.
Primus- Antipop
Machinehead- The Burning Red

Adore - Smashing Pumpkins

It could be said that every one of their albums sound different, but still uniquely them.
