YouTube TV can’t agree to terms with CBS/Paramount

Last minute notice as always ….
quote:
With YouTube TV, our goal is to offer you the content you love, delivered the way you want it. To make this happen, we enter into agreements with network partners to make their content available on YouTube TV. As such, we’ve been negotiating with Paramount to reach a fair agreement that allows us to keep their channels, including CBS, on YouTube TV without compromising the value of our service.
Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we’ve been unable to reach an agreement. ? On February 13, 2025, all Paramount channels will likely become unavailable on YouTube TV. If this happens, this will impact previous Library recordings from these channels, Paramount content in the Entertainment Plus package, and add-on services like Paramount+ with SHOWTIME and BET+.
Should Paramount content become unavailable, we will continue to update our Help Center with the latest. ? We know how frustrating and disruptive it is to lose channels you enjoy on YouTube TV, and we’re committed to providing you with the best possible entertainment experience.
That’s why we’ll continue advocating on your behalf to offer you more flexibility in how you watch your favorite sports and shows while preserving the value of our service.
It’s our goal to restore Paramount content to YouTube TV, but if we do not come to an agreement and their content is unavailable for an extended period of time, we'll offer our YouTube TV subscribers an $8 credit. You can still watch Paramount shows and movies by signing up for their streaming service, Paramount+, starting at $7.99/month. For more information on how we’re addressing our Paramount+, BET+, and Entertainment Plus subscribers, please visit our Help Center. ?
We hope YouTube TV continues to be your service of choice, but we understand some of our members may want to cancel their subscriptions. As always, family managers have the ability to pause or cancel anytime. You can find more information in our Help Center. ?
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work towards a fair agreement with Paramount.
As always, we sincerely appreciate your YouTube TV membership. ? Sincerely, The YouTube TV team

Oh wow... right as they raised the price

I think most people are happy with the $8 credit for now. All hell would break loose if this happened the week the NCAA tournament starts.

I've seen this one before

I’ve been in the TV biz 20 years and when YouTube TV came out, we saw how much money they were losing, but they have the deep pockets of Google
We all knew they would have to raise prices when all their contract agreements would be coming up. They will be over $100 by the end of the year.

Any info if this is going to affect any of the other services? Quick glance looks like Hulu & Fubo also carry the same channels.
Also, would the $8 credit they are offering be enough to have those channels if you subscribe to Paramount+?

First thing I thought. They JUST jacked the price up another $10 as a merry Christmas gift to their subscribers.

The only thing people watch on cable is sports and news and this doesn't affect either so no one will care.

Is this sarcasm?
The Masters and NCAA Tournament all happen within the next two months.

These disputes are always resolved fairly quickly. Everything will be back within a week.

ironically, Paramount+ doesn't stream stuff until later. I still can't watch the last half of season 5 Yellowstone because it isn't on there yet.

Do you have cable? I watched the end of Yellowstone on Youtube TV On-Demand. Hulu Live has it there too I believe.

Cable and insurance (car) companies are the same, you jump from one to another to avoid the rising cost which eventually comes. The next great deal will eventually turn into the market going price

The entire streaming game has become more expensive than cable tv was. Free is the way to go. The greediness knows no bounds.

I'm about to move and switching to ATT Fiber as it'll be my only choice, meaning, I lose the Cable I currently have bundled with my Spectrum that was the same price as just Internet. No more credentials to log into various apps.
I think I'll keep Paramount+, Apple TV, and start a subscription for ESPN+.
What are my best options to get regular sports channels like ESPN, ESPN2, and Fox Sports? YouTube TV and Hulu Live TV are way too expensive when all I really want is just these channels.

Was is the operative word. I routinely price shop my YTTV to a cable package with similar options and I am still saving $35 a month before the add-ons; cost for box, DVR option, multiple TVs (these were add-ons when I last had cable several years ago, may no longer be included)
With that said, my wife saw the message while watching friends last night and it made us question how much we actually utilize YTTV. Outside of Saints games (because I can watch them on antenna), it's the late night don't feel like streaming something so wife puts on Raymond, Friends, BBT, HGTV... while we wait for the kids to finally give up the fight and stop playing in bed and actually go to sleep. Made us realize how little we utilize $90/month, so it will be suspended now

Honestly, if you dont care about DVR, look at the free options if you can use a web browser on your tv or if you connect via phone or laptop. If you don't know what I am talking about, there are websites which are free that have literally every channel.

Check out the Sling packages. Don't recall the color, but either orange or blue should have all of those at $45/month, and if not for an extra $11/month you can get the sports package added - still cheaper than the $85-90/month for Hulu, Fubo, or YTTV
