You people are crazy. I get that most of you blame females for everything, but WTF...Carmy is the worst and most whiniest character in the show by far....he's a little bitch who fricks up every possible situation good/bad he is faced with. He is what has made this show harder and harder to watch each season.
You're not wrong, but at the same time, nobody watches this show for Syd. They watch it for the idea of what Carm was supposed to be - tortured, brilliant, chef. Instead we just get him looking off into space for 14 minutes per episode - all torture, no brilliance.
Give the people what we want. 20 minutes of French Laundry references and kitchen scenes and 8 minutes of side story and family drama.
Please stop cramming the catering girl is a hero narrative down our throat. Kill off the Faks. Fewer JLC twisted face close ups. A Michelin star-contending restaurant with a somm who barely understands the concept of red vs. white wine.
This season was slightly better than S3, but not by much. They went back to the well on the super-serious family talk 100x this season and it's gone from well-done to painfully boring. I have an appreciation for the concept of 20 minutes of really good dialogue, but as the other poster nailed, you can't do it every episode.

quote:I swear they don’t leave shite on the editing room floor. Who was that lady at the wedding reception talking to Richie’s ex? Her mom? Why would her mom schedule a flight so early? And who gave a shite about their conversation? The show is 10 minutes of I give a damn and 40 minutes of who gives a shite.
Season 4 Episode 4 Worms. What the hell was the point in that episode? That's 30 minutes of my life that I'd love to have back.
And speaking of the men…why are they all pussies? Every fricking guy is an anxiety riddled no fricking confidence having little bitch.
I’m going to finish this show, but these last two seasons have been pretty shitty.

A "cousin" that was in the Christmas Eve dinner episode, she's married to John Mulaney's character. I think she's who Carmy lived with when he moved to NY

S3, while certainly not very good, was most definitely not "awful."
This is like trying to convince somebody that your favorite color is better than theirs.
I thought season 3 was, in fact, awful. I never want to see it again, and I regret every second of my life wasted watching that utter piece of shite.

My biggest issue with the show is where are the drug users? I know this is a strange point but we know that a lot of people who work in restaurants are either heavy drug users or alcoholics. There isn't one on the whole show.

He's dead. That's sort of the genesis of this entire endeavor.
ETA: Also, Donna's alcoholism is pretty directly addressed as a problem for the kids.

And yet the review for S4 are meh. The show sucks. All of the characters are completely unlikable losers.

She doesn't work there and their has to be more than one addict there. Fat guy with tats should defiantly be a druggie.

OK.
Not sure why this is your hangup, but rock on.

I truly to do want to watch the same show as you. I am here for the characters, the family drama (Loved the wedding episode!) and the moments like Ritchie handling the customer perfectly and setting up the snow. I don't hate the Faks. They are the comic relief to me. I actually prefer all the characters sidestories, Ritchie, DD, Sug, than I do Carmy's. As someone else said, he's a whiny little bitch that can't decide what he wants in life and keeps messing it up for everyone else, include Claire Bear.
BTW, I didn't figure out why they were all Bears until the wedding episode.

It’s still entertaining, although different.

That one monologue of Sydneys where she's crying and talking about her dad... I think she said the word "like" about 87 times in two minutes
Honestly I think her speech cadence is what makes me hate her character. Same with Carmy and the fact that he hasn't finished a sentence in 4 season.

All of this plus more. The way Syd talks and stops and makes these faces annoys me to no end. I don't like the actress portrayal at all. Carm is just as annoying as he was in Shameless. So much promise but a dumbass and coward instead. Its a bit like Silicon Valley. Give us a fricking win once in a while and let us enjoy it for a show, not immediate drama/bad news.

What are you babbling about here? Start of the show to now, who is worse off now than when he got there? He turned a guy who couldn’t cook bread into one of the best up and coming chefs per Food and Wine. Sydney was nothing and is now a fantastic chef. Richie was a bum, now he’s light years ahead of what he was. Tina and Ebraheim…Alllllll better off and further along in their careers.
No one is here for Sydney…and it’s not because she’s a woman. It’s because she’s insufferable. The show ends with Carmie. “You’re The Bear” is equivalent to “The Force is Female”. It’s a joke and laughable.

I know this season got mixed reviews, but i was locked in every episode and it reminded me why this show is different.
Very well done and I really want Carman to stay but I guess that just goes to show what you want isnt always the best thing.
The Wedding was great, Say Goodbye was great, Will Poulter being featured more was great. Loved Richies vibe with the girl from the other restaurant.
Im glad we are getting another season but this wouldve been a great ending regardless

I still like it too, and I know it's lame to complain about brooding in a brooding show, but the person who said "give us a win" is right
Honeydew and Forks are probably my favorite episodes, would love for a little more of that in S5. I grew up on Sorkin so I'm not against self-indulgent dialogue and drama, but we've had such a heavy dose of it the last 2 season it would be awesome to get a switch up for next.

This show is just the writers and directors masturbating on film. We have gone 20 episodes with minimal plot advancement, but golly gee we got some beautiful camera work of some random food.
I fast forwarded through most of Camry’s visit to his mom because I just don’t care. I get that it’s vital to his character but I just can’t bring myself to care when there is no other development.
The dialogue in the last episode was well written but shallow as a puddle.
Syd is insane for not taking Shapiro’s offer. The idea she takes over the Bear and fixes the issues and gets it a star without Carmy is insane. No one else in that kitchen has that level of experience besides him.
I really liked the wedding episode.
