Imperative that you write a scene to go with Procol Harum's song.

Yes.
Any sort of historical fiction period movies are my favorite.
Braveheart
Last of the Mohicans
Master and Commander
Gladiator
The Last Samurai
Etc.

I don’t care if they are more fiction than fact. I get inspired to read and study on my own by the movie.

Yes Boo, I’d definitely want to watch a non fiction based movie on the Conquistadors as long as you kept it as historically accurate as you possibly could. If you wrote a bs version I’d probably not be interested though.

I don’t know what you mean by creative a narrative? The conquistadors did enslave and kill natives. They were open about it. There’s no denying they did horrible things that would be reprehensible today.

Now does that mean you have hate them? No, I don’t think so, but let’s not lie to ourselves about who these guys were.

I would like to see how those catholic priests destroyed all that valuable information that the natives had because the priests thought it was demonic material. Also how the natives at first thought the conquistadors were gods from the sky when they first came. That movie “‘Aguirre, The Wrath of God”’ with Klaus Kinski was kind of interesting but there was a good deal of artistic license involved in it. I’d just ask that you try your best to stay historically accurate.

True. Just read about the many massacres and murders committed by Cortez alone. Invade a civilization, kidnap and murder their leaders, slay thousands with superior weapons (and disease), steal their gold, and impose a new religion.

I would be scared Hollywood would clean it up and have Brad Pitt play a kind and merciful conquistador who falls in love with a native girl rather than show the murders and other atrocities the conquistadors carried out to conquer an entire region.

The subject matter is ripe for a great movie. But it may need a trigger warning for those who can't handle seeing Europeans doing bad things.

A movie about Cortez's conquest of the Aztec Empire would put my arse in a seat.

Its 16 years from Cortez landing in new world until he executes Montezuma so that particular story would have to cover about 20 years.

Spin-off:

I've always wanted a few good movies that would look something like this:

1: Follow some of the well known generals through West Point and the war with Mexico. Build on relationships, learning how to be soldiers, underlying build up to civil war, etc. End with the start of the civil war.

2. Follow through to the end of the civil war.

They could pick a few main generals/soldiers to focus on. Make it epic. Could also do it like band of brothers style for HBO or prime.

Dumb question, but how were the Spaniards such superior fighters to the natives? I know they had artillery and firearms. But those weren't repeating or easy/fast to operate. Was their sword skills that advanced?

Ridley Scott couldn't make this subject into a hit.

My god the last half of this movie is a shite show. Agree with the OP. I think a series could do the subject justice better than a 2 hour movie. Given the location shooting involved, I’m sure it’s a production nightmare.
