Well, yeah. Theater experience is light years better than home experience for big budget blockbuster type movies. It doesn't compare.

Wait, what? I have Prime and haven’t seen this yet. Did you get an email letting you know something?

This is going to get Roku working overtime to get Max on their devices. They can't be the only ones who don't have it going into Christmas.

Think that just means that HBO Max is now on Amazon devices.

Movie theaters going the way of Blockbuster Video faster than anyone imagined.

Just the independent chains, now that studios can open their own theaters again, that’s where we are headed. It’s more than covid driving these movie delays. It’s opportunity.

It also means if you subscribe to HBO on Prime, you can download the app on your other devices. Lot of reading comprehension issues on M/T.

This is absolutely false.

If you can setup a 120"-150" in 4K with Dolby/DTS surround sound, there is zero benefit to a theater. Can pause for restroom breaks, eat whatever you want, wear whatever you want, etc.

The only reason we would see a movie in a theater is too avoid it being spoiled. If they start releasing in tandem (theater/stream) we would probably never go to a theater again.

If you can do a proper home theater (which mine is not even), there is nothing better.

Christmas day what to watch...

Wonder Woman 1984

Alex Trebek's last episode of Jeopardy

Then you can return to the A Christmas Story and It's A Wonderful Life marathons.

i agree that it doesn't compare, but we just finally got a 60 inch TV last year right before the lockdowns (i've never been a big tech guy when it comes to home audio/video, so i realize i'm late to the game and 60" isn't that large of a TV) and as much as i really do enjoy the theater experience, being able to pause, go make a drink, etc. has really made the lack of movies go by better. i miss it a bit... but i miss it a little less than we would have before today.

Just the "pausing" aspect pisses me off enough want to see it in the theater. If it's a big movie I want a great experience on the first viewing. No pausing because someone has to pee, or someone calling someone on the phone, or whatever other bullshite pops up. It being Christmas Day elevates the distractions by 10.

A lot more than you think. Most new houses in the burbs are starting to come with "Movie Rooms".

This is valid. Every year there is a movie or two you want to go see with friends. If the Mrs. and I are going, it is not a traditional theater though and one of those movie/dinner places. Kids and movies is not really a thing any longer, at least where I live. Different generation they are.

This goes back to your point 2. There are movies (summer blockbusters) you want to see with friends or you know they will be spoiled. 97% of the movies released in a year do not fall into that category.

quote:

And again wrong

It would become even more rare. I would happily stream release day movies and skip the theater, unless some friends or wife wanted something different. I agree with you there. Being 11' from 120" with a stout audio, gives you an even better experience.

Change is hard here, but it is the future.

You talking real IMAX (few around) or are you talking about the ones that blow up a 35mm film to 3 stories and turn up the bass really loud to destroy your hearing. Yeah those are so rad

For the true player now
