Outside of some really good episodes, the OVERALL narrative takes a big turn downwards. While the characters are still interesting, the choices the writers made were questionable.

I agree with this.

Show became morose, negative, bickering, antagonism across the board and frankly a little dull...like watching Walt slowly die..a cancer crawl w/o all the goodwishes.

A better question is why would you not watch season 5 of Breaking Bad?

Season 5 is probably the worst Season, honestly.

Not the worst. That's probably season 2 - and parts of season 1.

I agree that seasons 3 and 4 are the best. And I agree that the show could have ended at season 4.

The issue with Season 5 was the pacing. More happened in season 5 than the previous 4 seasons combined. It was more action and less art. There was little time to experience and digest the ramifications of all that was happening.

Also, it is never a good idea to introduce SO MANY major characters in the final season. Season 4 was great because GUS WAS INTEGRAL by the end of season 4. The villains of season 5 feel more like plot devices.

With that said, season 5 is very good.

Personally I'd rank them:

4
3
5
2 (still like it overall better than 1)
1

That's a pretty good analysis. I've heard over and over that season 4 was the best and it has been. But I don't know where it goes from here. So many story lines were closed. I'm still excited about starting 5 this weekend but I'm afraid of being somewhat disappointed.

Season 5 is perfect for fans that didn't want the show to end. It does deviate a bit from the other four seasons, but that's because Walt becomes the top dawg.

You could see it brewing in seasons 1-4. Walt started wanting to just make some money for his family's future, got invested in the game, decided he wanted to be Gus. Well, season 5 is him becoming Gus (and you'll see a few characters point out that it's not easy being Gus and that Walt is by no means qualified for it). Then you get closure on the entire series.

Very much worth watching.

You won't be. The people that criticize season 5 are just looking for things to criticize.

I thought people refer to Season 1 as one of the best in history? I thought it was ok, way TOO slow.

Bingo. Not to get into Spoilers, but the Hank/Walt Dynamic could have comprised an entire season of awesome episodes.

My biggest beef with Season 5. The new characters were terrible. I hate all of them so much and none of them added anything to the show except for being a plot device. This is what brings Season 5 down significantly.

Better than most television? Sure. I don't think it comes close to Season 3 and 4 honestly. I like 2 better than 5 and even 1 a little just because "villains" were far better.

Valid opinion. Can't really argue with it.

I like season 5 more than 1 & 2 simply as a fan of the story, not for technical reasons.

Season 5 is the Michael Bay season of the series. It's the "popcorn" payoff. The icing on the cake. I figured that going into season 5 so my expectations were low tbh.

So I just sat back and enjoyed the ride and it was fun.

So far is it seemed like the show could have ended after season 4 finale. Skylar and some of the characters are so bad and it takes from the show. When the families get to together every season it the most uncomfortable thing on television

It is one of the open ones for sure. But Hank thinks he got his guy while Walt feels like he won. How many other shows ended without this type of closure?

Where? I find this thread refreshingly thoughtful.
