Why is there so much hate for GOT season 8?

Has there been a drop off in the writing? Yeah, probably....... but it isn’t that drastic. Could it be better? Of course. But it’s still damn good. I think people are just mad that it’s ending to be honest. It’s still very enjoyable and I expect the next 2 episodes to be great.

If it’s sticks the landing with the final two episodes, fair enough. I’m not optimistic, though.
And I have high expectations because this is my favorite show. I fully believe this show is being held to a higher standard than in the past, but it still feels like it is falling short.

It didn’t match up with my fan fiction.

Its just bad.
fricking up characters and their motivation and arc
Bad writing clutching to forced conflict and shock
Wasted time (in a limited run) with horrible pacing and bad plot devices (plot armor, teleportation, sudden onset retardation, etc)
Now a lot of these issues are due to horrible choices in previous seasons, but even within the bad confines D/D created, they somehow crafed a suboptimal result.

But the writing isn’t “damn good”. The rest of the show is but that part definitely is not. People are mad because this show used to have better writing. The characters weren’t all idiots. The show didn’t completely rely on shock value and the characters making stupid decisions to further the plot. Sure those things were there but not to the extent it is now. It’s obvious the writers don’t care as much as they used to. They want this show to end and by doing so are cramming everything into a few episodes making it rushed.

Go back and watch Blackwater and then the Long Night and tell me the drop off in writing hasn’t been drastic.

Nah, I think it’s about damn time, as do most people I talk to. Was at a crawfish boil yesterday, and even all the non-book readers think this season is a dumpster fire with the exception of Episode 2.

I agree with you but to be fair, teleportation has been a part of the show since season 1.

Look, I thought seasons 5,6,& 7 were clear dropoffs from a writing standpoint from the previous seasons but I was still able to enjoy them. This season is on a completely different level and the fact that they took two years off to bring us a a much inferior product just adds salt to the wound. It is a clear and considerable difference when it comes to the writing and the decisions they make.

You’re a simpleton if you think this season has been “damn good”.
They had two years to write this, HBO offered 10 episodes but those frick twats D&D said they’d do it in 6, logic has been completely thrown out the window, character arcs thrown in the trash, the entirety of Westeros forgotten about, time travel, a punk rock pirate is unstoppable, King’s Landing sits in a desert, medieval age scorpions are 100% accurate up to 1500 yards on moving targets, fleets can be hidden behind a rock...do you want me to continue?
Check ratings websites as well, look at every episode rating on IMBD then look at “The Last of the Starks”, it’s a 6.4 LMAO everybody knows it sucks now.

^^^
The show started as an intellectual, political series with a wide array of deep characters. Plots slowly build over a course of time which raised suspense.
Now they are throwing away all of that buildup in an attempt to wrap up every plot in a single season.

It’s pretty obvious they’re tired of this show, and they want to move on. This leads to lazy writing and lazy explanations for this writing like “subverting expectations” and “Dany forgot about the Iron Born”.

Have you watched any of this season??

There was a radio program on NPR years ago about music. The tag line was if it sounds good, it is good. Taste is entirely personal.
So enjoy the show.
With that said, no, I don’t think that explains why we don’t like it.

It's definitely a drastic drop. I've also never seen a show completely change its pacing in the last seasons.
Sure, it's still entertaining but it's been a noticable drop off in quality.

There's definitely been a drop off, but it is still pretty damn good. S8 is like if Alabama went 9-3 this year after their historic run over the last decade. It would still be a damn good team, but would seem very mediocre to fans accustomed to unprecedented success.

It also seems this board is definitely the more extreme end of hate for it. Most people I've seen not here have enjoyed it even if they're not totally satisfied with it.
I don't blame D&D for a writing drop off. I blame GRRM for that. I never expected D&D to write to the level of GRRM when his writing was still good (lets be frank, it's starting falling off in the books with the corners he's written himself into).

It was a great series that got ruined in the end because one writer is lazy and the other writers want to start directing movies and threw shite together. Just sit back and enjoy the melt. It will be a melt for the ages.
Whether it’s people melting about the show or people melting about other people melting. It’s hilarious.
