Someone in here said "Bo Jackson".

Comparison in freshman years:

Bo: 829 yards in 11 games

Herschel: 1616 yards in 11 games.

Herschel and Bo Jackson were both great runningbacks from the first day on their respective teams. It is important to note that Herschel Walker was the featured back in an I-Formation offense while Auburn ran a triple option wishbone offense with Lionel James and Tommy Agee who were also great backs. Does a slight disservice to Bo Jackson to drop those stats without the context of the totally different offenses UGA and Auburn were running at that time...

Do we know the exact positioning of the sun at that moment? The shadow of the ball over the goal line is only proof if we know that sun was directly over the ball.

At certain times of the day, my shadow may “prove” that I am over 7 feet tall.

Once upon a time in 1968 there was a double header: Alabama v LSU and Auburn vs Tennessee.

Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Tennessee fans all at the same stadium on the same day? The tailgating/outside atmosphere must have been insane.
I think UGA should make the playoffs. We’ve got some tough games, namely @ Alabama, @ Ole Miss, and vs Oklahoma. I think Florida and Auburn are both wild card teams and it wouldn’t shock me if one or both of those teams have a good season and really challenge us. But we get Auburn in Athens and Florida in Atlanta.

But with the 12-team playoff making it likely we would make the playoff at 10-2 and possible at 9-3, it would be disappointing if we don’t make it.
They were right to fire Gus, it’s just that Harsin and Freeze didn’t work out.

There are really not many coaches out there that have what it takes to win in the SEC, and while Auburn is a place that can have a lot of success and compete for SEC and national titles, they need to have the right coach.

Times have changed. Betting is legal and widespread now. Dominantly popular with the college aged demographic.

All the more reason to be harsh on players that bet on their team’s games. Giving the guy a slap on the wrist introduces the opportunity for avarice and corruption in a legal, regulated industry.

Gambling is unique in that it's a crime against the sport itself. There are clear rules at every level, every league, against gambling, because it affects the overall competitive balance and outcome.

[…] If Pete Rose's addiction had been alcohol or coke he'd be in the MLB Hall of Fame. He gambled on the game though and this is a unique, cardinal sin in the world of sports.

Perfectly said. I am surprised at how many people don’t understand this.
They both damage credibility, but tolerating players gambling on the actual games brings the actual games that people pay hundreds of dollars to see in-person and millions more watch on TV into disrepute, while the rampant cheating and money being paid to recruits really just brings recruiting into disrepute, and recruiting has unfortunately always been disreputable.

There is no such thing as “insider gambling.”

Do you mean there is no such thing as a law called “insider gambling” or it the concept of it doesn’t exist?

If you mean the concept, I think it definitely does. Could one not bet the under on rushing yards for his team if they know the gameplan calls for them to throw the ball more than usual? Over/under on FGs made if you know your kicker pulled his hamstring in practice during the week and won’t be kicking attempts more than 40 yards?
The difference between paying players (cheating pre-NIL and then just NIL) and gambling on your team’s games is that paying players did not compromise the idea that every player is playing to win the game and try as hard as possible. Cheating by paying players was widespread, but it didn’t compromise the integrity of the game on the field. If anything, it incentivized playing better.

Gambling on your team’s games is totally different. Aside from the obvious throwing games and point shaving, which I don’t think there is any evidence that the TTU QB did that, players are privy to game plans, injuries, problems with the team, etc that the general public doesn’t. It is a form of fraud or stealing because you are using your position on the team and your insider knowledge to gamble with a higher level of insight than the general public.

And, of course, the fact that a player on the team has a financial interest in the outcome of the game puts the results of the game into question. There is so much wrong with betting on your team’s games, that’s why it has traditionally lead to bans.
I have never in my entire life heard of an athlete getting caught betting on his team’s games and not be banned for it. Maybe it’s happened, but in any sport at any level, I’ve never heard of it.

re: Worst cities in SEC states

Macon, GA isn’t as bad as the cities you mention, but it does deserve an honorable mention.
I said since 2008, not under Saban. You guys lost by double digits just a few weeks ago in Atlanta…
They’ve lost a few lopsided games since 2008 but it’s probably been since Mike Shula that I’ve seen them get embarrassed and quit like this.
I would be shocked if Deboer left Alabama to go to Michigan, unless Alabama made it clear to him that they would not be particularly broken-hearted if he left. I do not think that is likely with them in the playoffs.
Seems pretty obvious to me that this is the case as well. Oregon got a good win and Ole Miss had a bye.
Not to hijack your thread, but one of the worst Iron Bowls ever, or at least one of the worst to attend, was the 2000 Iron Bowl. I was there with my dad, and it was the first Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa in the modern era.

It was like 33 degrees and raining and Auburn won a 9-0 slug fest. Rudi Johnson must have had over half of Auburn’s offensive yards, and Alabama hardly gained any yards at all.

I’m pretty sure it was Dubose’s last game as Alabama’s head coach.

Not sure everyone fully understands what's going on here, but they will when their team finishes in the top half of the league and still finds themselves on the bubble come March.

I remember the dark days of SEC basketball when teams used to finish 10-6 and 4th place in the conference and go to the NIT.
