It seems to be a major city on par with Metropolis..Batman acts like he doesn't enjoy having to be Batman and would like an out...

Just feel like Superman could go in and own any and all of Gotham's best villains, which would give time to focus on and get rid of the city's corruption at the top.

..and I fully believe Superman is capable of policing both cities while simultaneously defending the earth as well.

Maybe he enjoys seeing Bruce Wayne struggling and burdened?

Metropolis gets wrecked on a monthly basis. Who has time for Gotham City?

This is essentially what happened years ago on Arrow (way back when I watched it and the Flash). Team Arrow was struggling with some villain who was terrorizing the town, and Flash zoomed over and solved it no problem.

It would interesting to see Batman and Superman swap cities for a month. I imagine both cities would be worse off. Batman would inspire some new crazies in metropolis. Joker would toy with Superman. Soon there would be an Injustice type situation.

I member the first Arrow/Flash team up event was to fight Captain Boomerang of all people. Not a metahuman, not an invasion from outer space, not a galactic threat, a dude with boomerangs

Anyone saying someone Joker's level would bother Superman, is fixating too much on Supe's being the ultimate boyscout. That's why the movies don't work... they changed that dynamic. He took down the terrorist threatening Lois in an instant.

Clark could splatter every criminal and villain in Gotham in the time it took Lois to take a dump, and he'd be back before she flushed. And he could take a moment, do the math, and figure out just how many innocent lives he'd have spared if he would just do that.

Now with Black Adam, we have someone on that scale, that sorta already has done that, in his own little kingdom. And while you will have Superman scripted to say "we need to allow people free will", Adam can rightfully say "man, just look at this shite. Families getting blown up, kids raped, regular people living in constant fear of random violence. We can stop this in an instant, go on vacation, and let our reputations keep it clean afterwards. Is it really wrong for people to fear the consequences of murdering others? It's the only way to stop some of them, they won't change out of the goodness of their hearts"

this entire thread ignores the concept of Injustice and what would probably actually happen if Superman used the full powers to fight every crime everywhere.

not saying it would play out like injustice, but somebody somewhere would do something to send him into tyranny.

i do like the concept of benevolent dictators but they always just turn into dictators.

It looks to me as if the villains tend to self-segregate.

Villains with super powers tend to go to Metropolis and become Superman's problem, while villains without powers tend to go to Gotham and become Batman's problem.

Sure, there are a few exceptions, but that is the general rule.

Maybe Superman is content to let a non-powered hero handle the non-powered villains?

to go full nerd here, in Marvel, they usually called them street (wolverine, hawkeye, spiderman, joker) level, city (juggernaut, green goblin, cyclops) level, regional (magneto, iron man, storm) level, world (hulk, thor, doomsday) level, and i think omega level (galactus, darkseid, dark phoenix, mephisto) threats.

i could be off on some of those.

batman mostly got street or city level threats.

and i'm out. going to go do something not nerdy.

I'm going to have to go full nerd as well.

Ackchyually, Magneto and Storm are considered two of about twenty Omega level mutants. And Wolverine has fought the Hulk several times and won at least one of them. He's definitely not street level. Also, just regular Jean Grey was an Omega level mutant even before the Phoenix force. As Phoenix, she's considered the second most powerful being in the Marvel universe behind only their version of God.

I can hear my wife drying up in the other room from just typing that.

despite his record in hand to hand bouts, wolverine can't hurt anything outside of his immediate perimeter, which is why i'd still call him street level.

hulk can be on the other side of the city in a bound and launch the chrysler building off of Manhattan.

i'm find being wrong on the other ones as far as their levels, but even though Wolverine is my favorite, he's purely a street level threat. he might be able to kill people in a short amount of time,
