I thought the same thing. He technically did not change his name, but made the spelling more marketable.

Agreed. It's in the same boat with wrestling legend Richard Fliehr / Ric Flair, who did the same thing.

I've wondered about what people that are close to them call them. I would imagine if you have a stage name for 20 years or so it pretty much just becomes your name.

Jenna Elfman married Bodhi Elfman and took his last name.

This one, Tiger, and a few others are not legit on the list.

Several on the list are " not legit" in the manner that they just go by their middle name or the name their childhood nickname. Earl probably intentionally gave Tiger a stage name.

Some of those Re just nicknames or middle names they probably always used

The thing i wonder is how long it takes to get used to when you change your name drastically like the Jamie Foxx one

I mean, if someone calls you Jamie and your names chris or whatever it was, for a couple of years i imagine you wont respond to it a lot

yeah these are the really interesting ones and there aren't a ton of them. He lived half his life with one name and half of it with a different name. Does he go by Eric to his close friends and family. Or does he just completely cut the name off and get angry when people that know him call him that. The funny thing is Eric Bishop is a pretty solid Hollywood name anyways.

Making yourself sound "more marketable" is one thing, but the majority who do is for a totally boring reason - If there's already somebody with the same name registered with SAG - They have to register as something different.

Yeah I figured some people on the list was bogus but that was the first list that I came too. It was just a side note. There are probably way more famous people that change their name. I personally think it is crazy.

But why? Just seems like a silly rule to me. There are tons of common names. And then you get into Juniors and the III.

I wonder why Emilio Esteves didn't go with a Sheen name?

He would rather have the same name recognition as his uncle Joe... The greatest B Movie actor of our time. His roles in such modern classics as Soul Taker, Werewolf, Toad Warrior, and The Roller Blade Seven have probably been quite to inspiration to Emilio.
