Buster Scruggs was fantastic.

Turned it off after 5 minutes of singing cowboy.. Maybe I should have kept watching.

ETA--- Nope, sorry, can't do it. Broke out in song 3 times in the first 14 minutes.. Not my idea of a western.

I love westerns. Grew up watching them with my old man. Old Henry is really good.

Space is the new frontier. There isn't anything mysterious or wild about West anymore. It was to our dads and us as kids. It was still kind of there for us as kids because we didn't have the internet and could roam without cell phones and explore with some risks.

Not anymore.

Space is that new thing of exploration.

The cinematographer had a good idea but Alec shot it down.

Power of the Dog.

They'll fall all over themselves to throw awards at it. Watch it to see why.

While the first segment is the silliest, it's also my favorite. And it it is completely different stylisticly from the rest. And the rest are different from each other.

The entire thing is is an arc...from light and fun, to less light and fun, to tragedy and finally death.

IMO it's VERY ambitious. Coen Brothers are in the alpha tier of American directors....all time.

The singing western is an entire subgenre of westerns....

And that segment is 20 minutes long, at most.

I'd argue that The Mandalorian and Boba Fett are western films.

It's one of my favorite Coen brothers movies. It's an anthology intended to check all of the boxes of western genre. As someone already pointed out, the singing cowboy is one of those. As another pointed out, the film intentionally starts off light and gets darker with each act

There are, just modern westerns. So much shite is stolen and borrowed from that genre that..there hasn't really been any need for them.

But I love them. Always been an Eastwood fan.

I have said before that I think one of the most interesting Western type movies that could be made would be a film portraying the Indians who fought on the side of the Confederacy.
