Probably Clint Eastwood with Paul Newman and Gene Hackman to place and show.
Favorite character actors are Steve Buschemi, John Turturro and Jerry Stiller.

Impossible to pick just one.
Bogart, DeNiro, Pacino, Eastwood, Flynn, Wayne, Newman, Pitt, DiCaprio.
For females I like Stanwyck, Monroe, Vera Miles and Loren.

Agree, too many to name even three, or 10, much less one. So many great ones.
One that has not been mentioned was among the greatest of his time — Burt Lancaster. Almost a clone of Kirk Douglas.
Robert Duvall is a great one and is probably on someone’s Bucket List this year. Him and TL Jones in Lonesome Dove was classic TV.
I judge my favorites by asking how much will they draw me into a movie I haven’t seen? Or how often will watch them again.
I’ll watch anything with Leo, Pitt, McConaghey, Freeman and Tom Cruse (as long as it is not Mission Impossible stuff). Add Hanks and Oldman. Dare I add “James, James Bond.”
And here’s another possible thread — who absolutely broke your hearts when they passed too soon? PSHoffman, Raul Julia, RWilliams and James Gandolfini.

Daniel Day Lewis
I'm not really able to articulate why except that I just enjoyed his movies tremendously.

Currently it’s probably Walton Goggins. Love everything he is in

I'd probably say Pacino, with Deniro in a close 2nd.

All-time? Robin Williams
Current? Matt Damon (politics aside), Leo, or Chris Pratt

Surprised no one has mentioned Jake Gyllenhaal.
October Sky
Donnie’s Darko
Prisoners
Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler specifically is the most underrated acting performance ever.

A lot of the greats have already been mentioned. Duvall, who reminds me a lot of my dad is one of my all time favorites. One guy that hasn't been mentioned yet and will probably get some flack...but Kevin Costner.
I actually really liked Water World. Others such as Fandango, Open Range, Field of Dreams, Tin Cup, For Love of the Game, Untouchables!, The Highwaymen, and no one can forget Dances with Wolves. This latest run with Yellowstone, I quit watching after they killed him off.

No Ralph Fiennes? No Brendan Gleeson? No Colin Farrell?
Indignantly leaves thread to go stream In Bruges
Throw Jared Harris in there while you're at it.

I second the vote for Kevin Costner though I am disappointed you did not mention “Silverado”. He has versatility going for him.
If it was straight up acting skills, I’d lean towards Gene Hackman or Robert Duvall.

Clint Eastwood is my all time favorite but Denzel would have to be next in line.
Gary Oldman is another solid one and I've liked everything Mel Gibson has been in.
How about Kurt Russell?

This guy is spitting truth bullets
I don’t know if I have a hands down favorite actor, but it’d probably be narrowed down to Duval, Hanks and Costner. ETA: And Kurt Russell. Tough game to play.

All three are solid picks. Fiennes was fantastic in Grand Budapest Hotel and the Rat Catcher in roles that showed his range. Brendan Gleeson is probably my favorite of these 3. He absolutely killed it in Calvary, and was outstanding in In Bruges and Banshees of Inisherin. Colin Farrell was fantastic opposite Brendan Gleeson in the previous two movies, but I'm not sure he has quite the range of the other two actors, though I thought he was probably a bit better than Gleeson in Banshees, that was a great performance.

Obviously you can list any of the great actors here, Bale, Leo, DDL, Hanks etc. But I’m gonna say Nic Cage, just because any movie he’s in, whether it’s an Oscar winner or straight garbage, is gonna be entertaining.
