I think he's actually a decent actor. He was great in Reign Over Me. He just chooses horrible movies.

Vin Diesel is typecast, unfortunately

But he is actually a great actor

Boiler Room, Find Me Guilty, and Multifacial are all roles that were out of type.

Ford, Hanks, Stallone, and Willis have all made fortunes as mediocre actors, to be fair, I guess John Wayne and Clint Eastwood weren't/aren't exactly the greatest of actors either

You consider Tom Hanks to be mediocre? Seriously?

some of these actors that are considered great comedians, just because they did a stint on SNL I guess, that I fail to find much real humor in their work, seem to do a better job in "normal" roles, Farrell always seems like he's setting up a scene for something hilarious, but never seems to pull it off, the only thing I've ever chuckled over was the "angry dragon" scene in Starsky and Hutch

Chris Klein got his big break in Election because he was a local guy doing theater in Nebraska or wherever they filmed that movie and he was suggested by someone from the High School they filmed at for the part of the lovable idiot jock. He littlerally went from doing community theater to a major film star overnight. And I’m not defending his quality as an actor, but he was in a ton of starring roles mid 90s to early 00s and that’s kind of insane.

And Kristen Stewart is the answer for this thread.

People seem to be ignoring the caveat “in major films.”

Sandler, for instance, is doing direct to video crap for Netflix at this point.

Affleck is probably the right answer in that he has a subset he’s good at but gets cast in roles he really shouldn’t have.

Leave him behind the camera making stuff like The Town and Argo rather than making him Batman or Daredevil,

I've always thought that Robert Redford wasn't that great of an actor.

Gene Hackman is tGOAT

He’s got all the screen presence of Arnold and is ten times the actor.

I agree with this... he is not a typical actor in typical roles but for most of the roles he plays he is a pretty talented comedian and actor.

I think this is why he was better in Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore than he was in Spanglish.
