Elijah Wood in Green Street Hooligans.

Well he wasn't really a tough guy, he just followed a group and they sort of protected him...he threw a few punches but he wasn't some tough guy thug.

Vin Diesel is probably the right answer as mentioned above.

He comes off as a false note. Sort of feminine attitude. Just doesn't ring true on film. Everything he says is false bravado and costume dressing...wife-beater, steel-toe boots, you are too aware you are watching an actor.

Did John Malkovich scare anyone as Teddy KGB or Uncle Teddy in Knockaround Guys?

Maybe Cyrus the Virus.

When has Hamill ever been played a tough guy? In the Star Wars franchise the Jedi are more akin to monks than soldiers.

Jabba's palace in Return of the Jedi.

I give Costner a pass due to Dances With Wolves and Open Range.

Winkler as Fonzie... Yeah, I guess so. Lol

Love his character in Open Range, but why'd they give him that tall hat, a 3X shirt and a bandanna the size of a table cloth? Looks like a caricature or an outright cartoon.

Jeremy Piven in Lucas

I guess there's something to be said for him looking old enough to be Lucas' dad but dude's with receding hairlines usually aren't the tough guy in HS.

Cruise

Well, he's a smarmy midget, generally speaking, but he was a pretty unsettling tough guy in "Collateral." Perhaps his finest hour of playing against type.

Also think he was underrated as a killer vampire in "Interview with the Vampire." Not a great movie, but his performance was surprisingly good.
