While box office numbers are up in 2026, overall audience attendance is down...

Now that I have a theater room I mainly wait for stuff out on rental and then wait for it to drop to $5.99. Rarely will I rent one for $19.99.

I think I’ve seen 2 movies this year in the theater and it was the last Statham movie and Normal. I am going to see Super Troopers 3 tomorrow and will see Mutiny in a couple weeks.

But these movies are bringing back the theatre…….

Reality is they just doubled the price on tickets and some people are willing to pay that for the “experience”.

Americans don’t want to pay to have woke pushed down their throats. Surprise surprise

Tickets prices are higher, obviously.

And speaking of being in a theater, when I was at Spider-Man BND, a lady had a toddler with her. The babbling sort.

Thankfully it didn’t go off during the movie, but there were moments.

Minions or some Disney stuff, I get it But for this movie?

Movie attendance has also gone up every year since the nadir of 2021. So yes it’s still significantly below pre-covid but all of the doomsaying and prophesying in 2022-24 that movie theaters were dead were incredibly false.

It’s not just big franchise blockbusters that are doing well. Backrooms and Obsession were cheap throwaways. Marty Supreme and One Battle After Another were high concept R rated originals that did extremely well. Sinners and Project Hail Mary crushed.


Similar to the prediction that bookstores would die out in the mid 2010s and now Barnes and Noble is having a big resurgence, as are independent bookstores. Those things will never be as popular as they were before streaming and e-books/amazon, but there are plenty of people who enjoy going out into the world to experience things as part of a community, as an event, instead of just streaming them at home because it’s more convenient or cheaper.

Average ticket price is $1.85 more now than it was in 2020.

In that same timeframe a dozen eggs is up $3.10.

Audience attendance is still very much down from the pre-Covid era.

AMC Alist is the shite. I go to atleast one movie a week. Sometimes two and three. Can see up to 4 a week for $28. Pays for itself if you see 2 movies a month.
