writing and character development fell off a cliff for both of these shows. I have a hard time choosing which bothers me more. I’m leaning towards GoT because character development and dialogue is what made this show so great

Season 8 GOT by far.

Yellowstone was a good watch but always on the ridiculous side and would never be in Goat television level.

Game of thrones was at that level and it ended with “who has a better story than bran the broken?” As if that was supposed to be some profound thing.

A character with such little impact he literally wasn’t even in a season of the show

I even tried to defend Arya taking down the night king because I could twist that one around.

Bran was so bad that I haven’t watched a single episode since and it was my favorite show until episode 3 or 4 or so

Also screw you for this topic it’s got me pissed off all over again wanting to vent about how much of a slap in the face that ending was

Nope, never was. Was always a mediocre show for people who don’t like fantasy to pretend they are for the instagram crowd

Garbage take. Early GoT was some of the best TV ever. Name a fantasy show that had a better 5 year run.

I didn't even know yellowstone was going down that path. I've been enjoying this season.

Absolutely. There was probably no way that the ending would satisfy everyone, especially with fans predicting every possible plot resolution. But what we got seemed as if it was done out of malice and contempt for the audience.

It was the last of the weekly, must-see TV events for which everyone tuned in at the same time each week. It was the greatest show in the history of TV, and then it wasn't.

I thought Season 7 of GoT was fairly solid. And the Battle of Winterfell was well done as well. The latter part of 8 sucked. Yellowstone had always sucked. It can't sniff GoT's jock strap.

One of the writers for Yellowstone had the bright idea to write himself into the show via a horrible and boring back story, knowing damn well he couldn't act.

One or even several of the producers should have stepped up and told him no.

Pushed through season one of Yellowstone. Reminds me of a more violent Days of Our Lives with a better backdrop. Watching it because the wife likes it. I don’t understand the hype.

this is a dumb take

I was made fun of for years for reading fantasy books. This show legitimized the entire genre for adults (LotR is more teenage shite)

The metaphor between the writers just shitting on the last 2 seasons, and Danaerys burning down the entire city was incredibly well done.

I’m assuming you’re talking about Sheridan himself in his role as the horse trainer/seller.

It seemed pretty pointless but they are using that story line - with Jimmie being made to go with them to Texas - to spin-off another show. As soon as I figured that out I assumed that was the plan all along and why his character was there to begin with.

But yes, it seemed pointless.

Also, does anyone else like Yellowstone but sort of hate all the characters, except Rip, to some degree? I kinda hate the Duttons.

This.

It's like the Sopranos - they are all pieces of shite but you can't help but like them.

This is exactly what i'm doing. Everyone claims it gets way better in season 2, so here's to hoping it does.

I've tried to watch Yellowstone, but please, never ever compare it to a masterclass of a production like The Sopranos.

The cowboy show would do very well if it had even 1/10th the character creation as the mafia epic. There isn't anyone remotely close to the likes of Paulie Walnuts, Uncle junior, Bobby B, Big Pussy, Sylvio, or even Artie Bucco.

What Taylor Sheridan doesnt understand, is that, if you're going to make a show about assholes, then you have to have characters in it that people actually like and bring levity to the situation. The secondary roles in Sopranos are what made the show so incredible. Even Tony, as much of a bad person that he was, had comedic moments and moments of stupidity and incompetence and conflict. Kevin Costner nor anyone else hasn't anything anywhere near that.

Everyone is nothing but a one-note prick set in a really scenic Dallas ripoff.

The only thing that built a following like GOT and completely shite the bed as bad as GOT is Lost in my opinion.

There will never be another cultural phenomenon like GOT that so utterly turns off its audience that it went from everywhere in pop culture to where no one even speaks of it.

I would watch seasons 1-5 during that span multiple times over the course of 5 years.

I haven't watched a single episode of seasons 7 and 8 since they aired.

That's how bad it turned out.

This. Yellowstone has been flawed from season 1. I say that as someone who enjoys it and am very entertained by it. I don't get people that act like there has been a huge drop off.

Yellowstone was fun but is now ridiculous.

It was NEVER in the leauge of great shows. Justified is a MUCH better show.

I get that it's the most popular show out there. But the Island Boys are pretty popular too.

Yellowstone sucks. Bad.
