to pair that with "we have a ton of people in jail for weed. that's ridiculous!" how many of them are in jail for only carrying weed and not any other previous sentences that led to harsher charges? not many.

I knew a guy in an Oklahoma prison for three drug possession charges (3 strikes law) for life, no parole. Never committed a violent crime.

i'm not saying that's not the case (but he should stop doing weed in OK if he ever gets out.) I fully believe you.

He won't get out. Ever. He'll die in a medium security prison surrounded by 15ft granite walls.

Ya know... OR they were simply in Central Park doing their favorite pastime of kicking arse and causing trouble when one of the people whose arse they recently kicked happened to be raped by another person they may or may not have known, since they were by no means the only hoodrats causing mayhem in Central Park that night.

If I were to whip your arse on Bourbon Street one night, and then the pride of Alabama, the Alabama Teabagger, showed up to complete the job with his patented finishing move, my DNA may very well not be found on you, but that doesn't mean I didn't whip your arse.

We don't convict people in this country on "maybe" or "whatifs".

I love how the Constitution is this revered document by so many people... until it gets inconvenient.

True

The reason there was a "scare of brown people in NYC in the 80s" like you said was because the crime rate by minorities was through the roof at this time in the city. It was the most violent time in america

And, more specifically to this case, these kids were up to no good on their own accord as well. Now, should they have been convicted of a crime they didnt commit? Absolutely not. But the hand wringing and mourning people are doing over this specific case is a little much

I'm not saying that..

I'm saying that there IS sufficient evidence of wrongdoing that is convenient to leave out of an emotionally stirring Netflix special if you want to push a certain agenda.

Uh?

The DA was a piece of shite on this who was just trying to close cases and grabbed the easiest targets he could. This isn't even the first movie/show on this exact case.

So you're saying Netflix, in telling this story, should imply that these men were guilty of a crime they were not convicted of?

How would you depict this in such a way that would not get Netflix sued for slander?

They were convicted of many crimes, including ones unrelated to the jogger. They could have been tried for more, but it wasn't necessary. These were not innocent victims.

Apparently you haven't watched them. The DA was a woman.

Go back to the poliboard where parroting radio talkshow hosts gets you a pat on the back. Here you're just going to get called out for being a dumbass.

Actually, the only ones looking foolish are the ones trying to challenge me. I'll be happy to make you look foolish too if you'd like.

Lolz. As if it's difficult to imagine flawed people in a position of power, such as police, misusing that power to satisfy their own internal biases, as well as to benefit professionally.

What seems to be difficult for many in this thread is critical thinking outside of what is being spoon-fed from people with an agenda.

I'm amazed but shouldn't be that critical thinking isn't part of your reciprocal argument. Critical thinking wasn't done with the adults I charge of the facts in 1989. I would be shocked if you were born by that year. But if you were, pretty crazy what adults could come up with to suit their purpose. Don't you think?

There's a difference between disorderly conduct and rape.

Do I believe these kids were heckling the white folk? Yep. Based on the testimony.

Do I believe these 14 year olds knocked out grown arse men and robbed them? Nope. Again, based on witness testimony.

You take away this assault angle your theory fizzles out fairly quickly.

I know your hillbilly arse probably doesnt realize how big central park is, but it's big enough for two random acts to occur on the same night.

Typical NetFlix propaganda.

All the self hating white soycucks drinking it up I'm sure.

Pay no attention to the actual facts, just consume the narrative.

With the impending Disney+ app, they're really making some bad decisions here. I'm so ready to drop Netflix like a bad habit.

They told police about assaults they had committed that the police weren't even aware of.

You're an ignorant hack.

2014 article that includes interview with the jogger

quote:

"I so wish the case hadn't been settled," Meili told ABC News' "20/20" in January. "I wish that it had gone to court because there's a lot of information that's now being released that I'm seeing for the first time. I support the work of law enforcement and prosecutors. ... They treated me with such dignity and respect."

quote:

"She had blunt trauma," said surgeon Dr. Bob Kurtz, who treated Meili. "They didn’t know if she would survive. She looked like a little waif in the bed. No one knew who she was yet."

quote:

Meili’s left eye had been crushed in. The force of the blow to her face was so strong that her eyeball had exploded into the thin plates of her orbital floor, Haher said.

quote:

"Kevin Richardson had a scratch under his eye, so the detectives asked him, 'How did you get the scratch under your eye?'" said former New York City detective Eric Reynolds. Richardson replied on the videotaped interrogation:

Richardson: I got in the way. She got kind of like scratched me a little bit.

Prosecutor Elizabeth Lederer: Let me just ask you, you’re saying that she scratched you and you’re indicating a place on your face?

Richardson: Yeh, I think it’s on me right here.

Of course, we have morons on this board who don't think the scratch on his face is physical evidence.

quote:

"I always knew that there was at least one more person involved because there was unidentified DNA," Meili said. "So when I heard the news that there was an additional person found whose DNA matched, that wasn't a tremendous surprise. But when he said that he and he alone had done it, that's when some of the turmoil started, wondering 'Well, how can that be?'"

quote:

Meili and doctors Kurtz and Haher said there was medical evidence to support the charge that more than one person was responsible for her attack. Her injuries were different from what Reyes claimed as the sole attacker, Meili said.

"There were hand prints pressed into her skin that looked red in outline," Kurtz said.

Haher said the hand prints were of different sizes as well.

"It looks like, to me, more than one person doing that," Haher said.

More of that non-existent physical evidence.

Anyone defending these pieces of garbage is a fool or a liar.

quote:

"The five of them went to Central Park to beat up people and they ended up with millions of dollars and they’re heroes and civil rights icons," Reynolds said. "It’s appalling."

Absolutely.

I bet you can't stand fake news. You seem like that type. The type that news is fact when you can't stand it to be the other way. Like Penn in Mystic River, you're swallowed whole.
