I read the first five books about ten years ago so I’m fully aware of the big picture story, but when it comes to details I have no memory of what they’re leaving out/adding to the show.

I don’t think it’s awful, sure it’s not HBO quality production but it’s certainly not CW level either.

Two Rivers looks exactly how I imagined it, just more mountainous. I think it’s pretty decent overall.

I agree it somewhere in between . The only thing that has looked really cheesy to me was in episode 2 when the black shadow stuff was chasing them. Amazon is highly invested in this, so I'm sure they will put more money in it next season.

Exactly. I think so far its been a solid 6/10 but EotW is honestly so different from the rest of the series. If they have the same approach for seasons 2-3 (where the world really starts opening up), id be upset. Also We have 5 more episodes left in this season. I think it’s gonna slow down.

This is closer to Xena Warrior Princess than GOT.

I just find it very hard to even compare WoT to GoT at this point.

What was the most significant FX they did in season 1 of thrones? The whitewalker from episode 1? Idk if there was even FX used in that scene.

GoT leans wayyyyyy heavier (in the book and tv show) on dialogue than WoT does. (Especially comparing the first GoT book to the first WoT book)

One is high fantasy with an extensive hard magic system while one has a very very soft magic system that doesnt even play a significant role in the series.

It doesn’t have to be GOT but It does need to be better quality than 90s late night fantasy.

This is a cheese fest.

For being so expensive why does everything look so cheaply done??

I'm getting a Xena/Legend of the Seeker vibe, as far as production quality. Nobody's clothing starts out looking worn at all, everything is just so clean and bright. Even their feet or shoes.

Game of Thrones might be too high a standard, but I'd expect this to match Vikings, at least. It doesn't. Not visually, and there's definitely not a score to speak of.

Say what you want, Amazon put a lot of money into it, and I'm disappointed in what I'm seeing.

I was fairly disconcerted with episode 1 but episode 2 and 3 were solid enough. I have my complaints due to book purity and the pacing is awful. but I’m settled in. I’ll watch with the wife next week.

We are watching two different shows. It looks pretty good to me production wise. You’re nuts.

I just watched the first two episodes. Haven't read any of the books though they've been on my list. I thought the scenery was nice and the village settings well built but the filming seemed...old? Like their technique was from Conan the barbarian circa kevin sorbo. There wasn't any explanation of the witch characters, why they exist, or why everyone was afraid of them. The initiation scene was kind of dumb and took too long, then bam, trolls out of left field and a sword home boy makes off with, with zero talk, and everyone just happily rolls out of town after half of it gets slaughtered. I did enjoy the battle though. The second episode was yet another one where a bad thing happens from a very unexplained event. I'll keep watching it because adult sci-fi/fantasy is my jam, but I won't set a weekly alarm for the episodes.

Egwene’s nose is massive, could’ve cast someone at least decently attractive

Not real happy with casting for Perrin, Nyvarne, Lan, or Moiraine. I wasn’t happy with the Perrin twist or Matt being a legit thief.

I was hoping to be drawn in as an avid reader fan of the books but my god. The effects are horrible. The setting locations seem fake as frick. They did indeed do one of WoTs best characters dirty. Mat is badass. He’s a goddamn embarrassment here.

The weaving looks weird as hell and not at all what I imagined.

The Trollocs seemed pretty well done but i was not at all blown away.

I sat through the 3.

Like you, I want to enjoy this, and I hear the books are good. Maybe it will come together, just hasn't yet for me.

Talks of "war", have no idea who is at war with who. Seen a couple of villages and at least one other group of folks (surely you've heard of us, right? Do you know the song?), none of which seem connected or affiliated to anyone else; none of which are big enough to wage a skirmish, much less a war. Is there supposed to be a larger state nearby, or are they part of one?

Get one glimpse of 'an army' of sorts, a guy with a General Grievous stack of trophies from the witches. Saw him kill (and eat?) one. Misguided good guys, bad guys, I don't have a clue. They do seem interested in going and finding the minotaur critters, and are civil to our party (assuming they are normal people). So I assume "good".

Ruins randomly splayed about the landscape, no reference to what they are.

I'm going to watch and hope they bring this together in a relevant way, at least color it in some. But so far, they haven't impressed me.
